Mark Pontius Leaves Foster The People Band After a Decade

Foster the People was an indie rock band that started in 2009 and since then, they have had a successful career with top charting songs. Their most popular song ‘Pumped Up Kicks’ is internationally known and was crucial in bringing them to the limelight. The band consisted of frontman Mark Foster, drummer Mark Pontius, guitarist Jacob Fink (who left), Sean Cimino and Isom Innis.

Now, Mark Pontius has made a statement that he is leaving the band

In his emotional note to the fans, Mark Pontius revealed that he’s leaving the band. Reminiscing his time with the band, he shared his gratitude for it and considered it to be the best time of his life.

“As we celebrate the 10th anniversary of our first record, Torches, I’ve been flooded with memories of our sudden success, achieving all of my career aspirations in a few short years, and the beautiful moments spent with my brothers in the band. What a privilege it all was, I’m eternally grateful for all of it.”

Pontius shared that the main reason for leaving the band that became a family to him was because of some changes in his life. As he became a father of a daughter, his priorities shifted. He wasn’t attracted to the touring musician lifestyle anymore. And would rather stay at home and spend time with his family. Mark Pontius is currently divorced and a father an adorable two-year old.

“I find myself drawn to things closer to home. I’ve seen the world (a couple of times) and I really checked everything off my career bucket list. Now my aspirations are more about hanging out here in nature and watching my child grow up.”

After his divorce, he started to date comedian Jessa Reed, whom he has become quite close to.

Mark Pontius had nothing but kind words to say on Instagram regarding his new partner.

Never in my life have I felt so understood and seen by another human being. So supported and unconditionally loved. (Turns out Im an extremely complicated pain in the a** and really not an easy person to be with, no matter how pretty you think this dumb smile is). But this beautiful woman has taught me SO much about that dark side of myself and has showed me what it really feels like to unconditionally love someone. I am endlessly grateful for her radiating beauty and powerful magic that showers this earth and beyond everyday. Her name is Jessa Reed.

Yes, they’re very cute!

Mark Pontius further shared in his good-bye note to the fans that he might perform with Foster the People sometime in the future. Right now, he is currently focusing on his other projects.

“I will miss Mark, Isom and Sean, they are my family forever and I’m sure we well work together again one day. As for me, I’ve got a few ideas for the future but I’m just going to take it one day at a time for now,. Thank you to everyone who supported the band over the years, I love you.”

Fans of the band will surely miss the drummer! But they’re happy for the musician to embark on the new journey of his life.
