Vinette Robinson Defended Her Character In Christmas Carol

Dr.Who’s Vinette Robinson playing Crachit’s wife defensively responded to all those outcries by posting a thread of appreciating tweets. The tweets were compiled by some unbiased supporter of the show, Whores of Yore.

Whores of yore, in fact, posted a series of images proving how commonly couples belonging to mixed-races tied knots in the 19th century. The tweet is genuinely informative with a  detailed showcase of several mixed-race couples from Dickens’ days. It, thus, proved that the latest BBC-FX adaptation of the novel is pretty accurate.

Social Media Rebuffed The Concept Of Mix-Race Marriages

Basically, the casting of  BBC’s miniseries adaptation of Charles Dickens’ A Christmas Carol has become a difficult question on Social media. A swarm of posts is fueling against the role of Vinette Robinson, still choosing to not believe that mixed-race couples could exist at that time.

The Chrismas Carol

The story is all about an aged miser, Ebenezer Scrooge. Three ghosts who visited him on Christmas Eve taught Scrooge the lesson of compassion and kindness. The tale also highlighted the life of Scrooge’s exhausted yet underpaid clerk, Bob Cratchit. In this fresh adaptation of ‘Christmas Carol’, the Cratchits are telecasted as a mixed-race family with Vinette Robinson playing the role of Bob’s wife, Mary Cratchit.

The Character Of Vinette Robinson

As a matter of fact, Vinette’s character, Mary Cratchit, is insignificant in previous adaptations and the original story.

A Christmas Carol is a novel by Charles Dickens, first published in 1843. Later, an American 3D -animated film adaptation hit the screen in 2009 with Jim Carrey playing all the roles of Ebenezer Scrooge as a young, middle-aged and old man. In addition, he also played the three ghosts who haunt Scrooge.

This year, the BBC-FX revamped the Charles Dickens classic. presenting Neighbours star Guy Pearce as Ebenezer Scrooge. The Line Of Duty star Stephen Graham played Jacob Marley. Furthermore, Charlotte Riley is the ghost of Christmas Present, Andy Serkis as the ghost of Christmas Past, and Jason Flemyng is the ghost of Christmas future. The three-installment series aired at 9 pm on 22nd,23rd and 24th December.

The Refused Proposal

Surprisingly, the controversy of mixed-race marriages dominantly prevails in the US culture. According to research published in the March 2018 issue of Journal of Current Issues & Research in Advertising, revealed:

‘Ads depicting black and white couples elicited more negative emotions and attitudes toward the brand than comparable ads showing the same-race couple’.
