When the 19th amendment was ratified in 1920, women’s suffrage had been going on for almost 80 years

Although women could vote in some colonies in 1776, by 1807, all the states in the US denied this right to women. However, women’s rights organizations started their efforts and became more active. In 1878, a suffrage proposal was introduced which later became the 19th amendment. According to this amendment, no state and federal government can deny any citizen of the US from voting on the basis of their sex. This year marks the 100th anniversary of the 19th amendment.
