Sean Penn’s NGO Is Providing Testing for Coronavirus

Sean Penn recently came on the news for being tested for the coronavirus, his NGO is helping administer COVID-19 tests.

Just like the rest of the world, Hollywood is also not safe from coronavirus pandemic. Including Tom Hanks and Idris Elba, many celebrities have contracted the virus. While most of them have recovered, some were not so lucky. Recently, Mystic River and I Am Sam star, Sean Penn was seen testing for the virus. He also has an NGO doing remarkable work.

It began with Tom Hanks and Rita Wilson but many more celebrities have contracted coronavirus

While in Australia, Tom Hanks and Rita Wilson got the virus and had to stay in isolation. Although they have recovered since and are back home, they are still taking precautions. Shortly after, Idris Elba and his wife, Sabrina Dhowre, also tested positive. The James Bond actress, Olga Kurylenko shared the news of her contracting coronavirus on her Instagram. Game of Thrones stars, Indira Varma and Kristofer Hivju were also not safe from the virus.

Not only celebrities, politicians and royals have also contracted coronavirus. UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson, Prince Charles, Prince Albert of Monaco and Canadian Prime Minister’s wife, Sophie Trudeau have all tested positive. Now the possibility of Sean Penn being affected by it has come out. Though Sean Penn has tested for it and his organization is doing something wonderful.

Sean Penn’s NGO efforts to administer Coronavirus testing

In 2010, Sean Penn established a non-profit organization called CORE (Community Organized Relief Effort). It was founded to help the earthquake victims of Haiti at that time. However, now it is collaborating with LA Mayor Eric Garcetti to help coronavirus patients. Their aim is to set up free drive-in testing sites for coronavirus all over Los Angeles. His organization is working with the fire department as well. At the Malibu testing site, Sean Penn was seen getting tested with a nasal swab. His organization aims to help fight the disease which has spread rapidly all over the US with 770,564 confirmed cases so far.

While talking about his organizations’ efforts, Penn said:

“We have an infrastructure in place to respond, and so we decided that we would if we could be value added. It’s something that we can adapt to very quickly with the training of the Los Angeles Fire Department initially. And then we’re able to take all those firemen and put them back in to serve the people in the way that we need them to.”

Moreover, Sean Penn also volunteers at the Malibu testing site. It is a great effort from the Hollywood star and will help a great deal with fighting the virus.
