The World’s biggest charity football event came to Chelsea’s Stamford Bridge in London last Sunday, June 16th. And for the initiative, UNICEF enlisted a star-studded line-up of football legends and various other celebrities to battle out on the pitch. The objective of Soccer Aid for UNICEF was to raise maximum funds so that health, happiness, and education can be ensured for more and more children. The athletic showdown involved England facing off against World XI, a team crammed with high star-wattage celebrity icons. While big names including John Terry, Robbie Williams and Mo Farah were touted as the main faces for England, World XI. campaigned through its stellar line-up of international stars including, Niall Horan, Usain Bolt, and Didier Drogba. Soccer Aid for UNICEF 2019 was the first match to be played in consecutive. years, along with being the first match to feature female players. Who Won?
The energetic face-off between England and World XI did not conclusively subside as the whistles blew out. For England, Britain’s Got Talent’s Jeremy scored two goals in the first half. Shortly before half-time, Usain Bolt scored a goal for World XI. While England was unable to score a point through the entire second half, Kem scored another point for World XI; thus, equalising the scores by the end of the match.
World XI and England then participated in penalty shootouts to find a winner. Which ultimately resulted in World XI winning 3-1.
Each team will involved celebrities from every walk of the industry. These celebrities rallied together to elevate the living standards for children living in abject poverty across the globe. Every enlistment on each team, whether it be a player or a manager, carried an unsurmountable star power. And this ultimately empowered the cause by attracting several eyeballs towards the initiative.
World XI and England each boasted a starry management team. Former England manager Sam Allardyce reprised his role in the upcoming match, while Good Morning Britain’s Susanna Reid joined him as the first female manager of Soccer Aid for Unicef. So
