Hulu takes down ‘Astroworld: Concert from Hell’ documentary after receiving backlash

After people criticized Hulu for releasing Astroworld documentary, they took it down and claimed it was not their production.

Recently, Hulu released an Astroworld documentary. According to reports, the 50 minute long documentary detailed the horrors of Travis Scott festival. However, the platform received massive backlash and criticism. People called Hulu out for being insensitive. Shortly after the backlash, Hulu took down the documentary and issued a new statement. According to them, the documentary was a report by a local news channel and not an official production of the platform.

Last month, Astroworld festival ended up becoming a nightmare for many families.

On 5th November, Travis Scott kickstarted his music festival, Astroworld. During the first day of the festival, a stampede broke out. According to eye witnesses, it started right after Travis Scott came on the stage. While people were getting crushed and injured, Scott kept performing. At one point, an ambulance came to take away unconscious people but he did not stop. Since then, the rapper have received massive backlash. Similarly, he is facing multiple lawsuits by the families of those who have died. According to his attorney, he has offered to pay for the funerals of the deceased. However, the families have rejected his offer. At this point, Hulu releasing Astroworld documentary seems like a horrible thing.

Few days ago, news came out that Hulu has released an Astroworld documentary and received criticism.

On Thursday, Hulu released the Astroworld documentary called ‘Astroworld: Concert From Hell’. In the description for the 50 minute special, it reads:

“Travis Scott’s Astroworld Festival was supposed to be the concert of a lifetime. But it turned into a tragic nightmare. A minute-by-minute look at what happened in the crowd, the young victims who were killed, and what happens next.”

Shortly after, people called out the platform for releasing Astroworld documentary.

According to one Twitter user:

Hulu making a documentary about Astroworld is in poor taste all around.

People are still burying their loved ones. The legal cases haven’t even started.

Great documentaries are done when all the facts are laid out. Not enough time has passed to fully discuss this.

Another Twitter user said:

Hulu having a documentary on the Astrofest tragedy in less than a month since it occured is so distasteful. The least you could do is allow the loved ones to grieve and everyone affected by it to mentally recover before you money grab.

After the backlash on Astroworld documentary, Hulu took it down.

In a newly released statement about Astroworld documentary, Hulu rep said:

“This was an investigative local news special from ABC13/KTRK-TV in Houston that originally aired on November 20th. This was not a Hulu documentary and has since been removed to avoid confusion.”

Unfortunately for Hulu, this clarification is a little too late. The fact that they released the Astroworld documentary means that they did think it would get them ratings. However, the backlash is the only reason they took it down. We hope the families greieving their loved ones can get some peace and they can heal from this tragedy.
