Pop idol and actress, Hilary Duff is all set to come back on our screens, once again as Lizzie McGuire after 18 years. Yes, a Lizzie McGuire reboot is happening! The show will be available on ‘Disney Plus’ (a new streaming service) somewhere in 2020.
The original show was about 13-year-old Lizzie, a clumsy girly-girl navigating through high-school, parents, an annoying brother, and her two best-friends Miranda (Lalaine) and Gordo (Adam Lamberg). The hit series was aired on Disney Channel.
An important part of the show was the animated cartoon-character ‘Lizzie’ (Hilary Duff) who would make cameo appearances during various parts of every episode. This version of Lizzie would bring more life to the show, representing her immediate inner reactions with a comic touch.
The Lizzie McGuire show was an entire part of our life while growing up as teenagers. Lizzie (Hilary Duff) was someone any girl could relate to. Her high-school life, school crushes, mean girls problems altogether made her one of the most realistic teenage girl characters on television at the time.
After 18 years, we are getting our Lizzie back. And boy, we are excited!
Honestly, Hilary Duff looks excited as we are. In fact, it feels like a huge moment for all of us, together!
There’s a lot we have found about the reboot. Not only did we scour the internet for this information, Hilary Duff herself couldn’t resist sharing more inside scoop!
First things first, Hilary Duff will, again, be Lizzie McGuire but now as a 30-year-old woman living in New-York City. Duff talked to ‘Entertainment Tonight‘ about how the new 30-year old Lizzie McGuire may once again have significance in the lives of the girls who previously watched the original show.
“She was so important to girls at such an important time in their lives.. If she could be important to them again, at this age… I think that would be amazing.”
Duff also shared that Lizzie will be an apprentice for an interior designer. And she will be engaged to a chef.
Lizzie will now be a grown-up. From 13 to 30, we will see the character older and wiser, with a different set of issues around her. Whereas we had lived through high-school with her, now we’ll navigate professional life and serious relationships with her.
“The good news is, just like me and everybody who loved Lizzie and has grown up with her, Lizzie’s also grown up,” Hilary Duff shared onstage during the show’s announcement.
“She’s older, she’s wiser, she has a much bigger shoe budget, which is super exciting. She has her dream job. She has, kind of, the perfect life right now.”
In an interview, Hilary Duff also confirmed that animated Lizze McGuire will also be a part of the show. The animated character was one of the best parts of the show as she always added humour and relatability.
“She has an epic return and she has a lot of the comic relief in the show.”

The animated Lizzie always wore her iconic signature pink crop-top, blue jeans, and orange platform slippers.
Duff reminiscently referred to animated Lizzie’s “platform flip-flops” and shared that her look is going to stay the same “which is the right thing to do.”
Disney has revealed that Hallie Todd (Jo McGuire), Robert Carradine (Sam McGuire), and Jake Thomas (Matt McGuire) will definitely be in the show again, resuming their original roles as Lizzie Mcguire’s family.
We are excited to see how Matt (Jake Thomas), her annoyingly mischievous prankster little brother, turns out now.
Duff shared that she will be engaged to a new person in the show. And yes, he is not Ethan Craft (Clayton Travis Snyder) who was her all-time crush in high-school.
But the big news is that Ethan Craft will still be in the show. We aren’t sure if he has a permanent role or just a cameo. But Duff did mention “he’s really, really hot now”.
Duff also expressed that she is hoping Gordon, her high-school best-friend turned lover (Lamberg), will join the Lizzie McGuire reboot in some capacity. “I really hope he’s going to be involved,” she told Vulture.
“We’ve been planning out the season and coming up with what everything looks like, and it’s so important for him to be there for part of it.”
Meanwhile, there is no update on whether Miranda will make a comeback.
One huge spoiler (or exciter!) we have is that there will be a twist at the end of the first episode. Now Hilary Duff did not reveal what this new turn will be related to; Lizzie’s professional, family or love life?
But we will anxiously be waiting to find out and watch our favorite, nostalgic series once again in a new light.
The shooting was to begin in October and the show is expected to air sometime in 2020. We’ll update as soon as more information rolls in.
