The iconic duo of Lily Tomlin and Jane Fonda graced our Netflix screens again with Grace and Frankie’s 5th season on 18th January 2019 after exactly a year of waiting. It’s safe to say that the fifth season was a rollercoaster full of emotional moments that make you cry tears of joy and sadness alike. That’s the beauty of this fantastic show that breaks stereotypes of old age. This season Frankie and Grace ‘didn’t give a fuck’ and did essentially whatever they wanted! We saw the two escape their retirement house with a golf cart and blowtorch. Since Grace and Frankie’s season 5 finale, fans eagerly await news of their sixth season. So what do we know so far?
Grace and Frankie Season 6 is Already Confirmed!
Ahead of its 5th season premiere, Grace and Frankie season 6 was already renewed by Netflix. And why wouldn’t it? It’s about a beautiful friendship between two women, played by Lily Tomlin and Jane Fonda, who find comfort in each other’s company when their respective on-screen husbands, Sam Waterston and Martin Sheen, leave them for each other.
Expected Grace and Frankie Season 6 Release Date
The Netflix show, created by Marta Kauffman and Howard J. Morris, has had an odd schedule since its first season premiere was released in 2015. The first season came out in May 2015, and the second season came out a year later in May as well. However, the third season was released in March 2017. Then it surprised us again by giving us Grace and Frankie season 4 in January 2018.
Following this pattern, season 5 came in January of this year 2019. If the showrunners keep this up, we can expect Grace and Frankie Season 6’s release date to arrive in January 2020. It takes almost a year for production, and sources say it’s already being done. But, the show could take a few more months as the main cast is busy doing other movie projects. Lily Tomlin is busy doing a movie project The Road Home, and Martin Sheen is occupied with filming The Devil Has a Name and Princess of the Row. And June Diane Raphael is busy finishing Flarsky in 2019. So let’s see how long it takes for us to get another season of the show.
Quick Spoiler-Filled Recap of Grace and Frankie Season 5
The diverse characters of the show allow for interesting storylines to develop as we move along the show. This season, we saw Grace and Frankie’s friendship go through a trying time when Frankie (Lily Tomlin) searched for more meaning in her life. There was also a hilarious moment when Frankie’s highness and flakiness landed her in a situation where she had to come up with 50,000 donuts and vibrators after a promotional stunt for their vibrator business goes wrong. Ultimately, in the finale, we see the two patch things before the surprise marriage of Grace (Jane Fonda) with Nick (Peter Gallagher) shocks Frankie.
Meanwhile, Sol and Robert are having trouble in a paradise of their own when Robert’s plan of being Don Quixote in the new play never comes to life, and Sol becomes more assertive. The two go through an exciting transformation as well.
The kids have crazy adventures of their own. We see Bud (Baron Vaughn) and Allison (Lindsey Kraft) marry each other in a beautiful ceremony. And Coyote (Ethan Embry) meets his half-brother on the show. Meanwhile, Brianna (June Diane Raphael) has to deal with the fact that Barry’s lesbian friend asked him to be a sperm donor and Mallory (Brooklyn Decker) finally starts to date again.
Possible Plot Lines of Grace and Frankie Season 6
Grace and Frankie Season 6 could go in a million different directions. Grace (Jane Fonda) and Nick’s marriage could be a focal point in the upcoming season. It will undoubtedly strain the five year-long friendship between the two women. It would be interesting to see how the showrunners tackle that. Perhaps, Frankie finds a new beau in life?
Sol and Robert’s relationship had a positive conclusion in the season 5 finale, so their story could go in any direction. Maybe, Robert would try to pursue acting more seriously, and Sol would adopt more dogs.
Bud and Allison are also married, so their new relationship can be a source of entertainment too! Brianna and Barry would have something entirely new to experience when Barry’s sperm impregnates their lesbian friend. And Mallory’s new boyfriend, Dan (Josh Cooke), who is also her kids’ school principal, certainly has the potential to be a recurring character in the show.
There’s also the Vibrator business of Grace and Frankie that isn’t growing yet.
