The usual reception to Alec Baldwin accidentally shooting the Director of Photography Halyna Hutchins on the set of his movie Rust was either shock or genuine sympathy. Most fans of the actor were sympathizing with the ordeal that Baldwin was going through. However, the son of the former President of the United States, Donald Trump Jr., took a completely different route. And that caused him to receive an incredible amount of criticism, not just from Twitter but from established newspapers as well. What Trump Jr did was that he mocked the accidental shooting by Baldwin with a t-shirt.
Hollywood and the rest of the world got shocking news from the set of 19th century western Rust. Alec Baldwin had accidentally shot the cinematographer with a prop gun that was loaded, even though he was informed beforehand that it was a “cold gun”. The victim, Hutchins died on her way to the hospital, succumbing to a gunshot in the chest. Most fans reacted with empathy and compassion, as it was a horrific accident. But, Donald Trump Jr thought otherwise.
Yesterday, Trump Jr posted a story on his Instagram account, which depicted an edited photo of Alec Baldwin wearing a “Guns don’t kill people, Alec Baldwin kills people”.
Soon after, Trump Jr posted a photo of that t-shirt along with a link to his website, where people could buy the t-shirt from his merchandise.
Donald Trump Jr was selling the t-shirt on his website for $27.99 in three colors: black, blue, and military green. But with the backlash that followed, he had to remove the t-shirt from his website. If you open the link now, it shows the message “404 Page Not Found”.

The reason for such a vile joke by Donald Trump Jr was the fact that Alec Baldwin had portrayed and mocked his father President Donald Trump on SNL multiple times. He has also been critical of the former President as well. Moreover, Baldwin is also vehemently against the National Rifle Association and supports gun control laws. And Trump Jr made sure everyone knew that, as he posted the following meme on his stories:
Vanity Fair called Donald Trump Jr a “sentient pond scum”. And similarly, the New York Daily News called him “Spawn of Hatin'”. But the criticism did not just end there. Critics all around Twitter called him truly his “father’s son” and some even hoped that he would at the very least donate the money he got from the t-shirts to the family of Halyna Hutchins.
