What is so funny about the return of FX’s undead mockumentary ‘What We Do In The Shadows’ is how relevant its once outlandish, ridiculous, deadpan seclusion tropes have become to our current, abominable state of existence. What We Do In The Shadows starring Matt Berry, Kavyan Novak. Natasia Demetriou, and Harvey Guillén hits differently with its season 2. While the character dynamics remain intact and the story takes forward from where it left last year, Shadows on FX is more tenuously connected to our lives in its second season. There are frequent laugh-out-loud moments; in addition to delightful cameos from Benedict Wong, Craig Robinson, and Haley Joel Osment.
What We Do In The Shadows’ ardent fans will witness their favorite vampiric shut-ins as the show’s season 2 premieres tonight. The lead cast is mostly pushing its original narrative forward. But the supporting cast observes a major shake-up. Booksmart star Beanie Feldstein will not return to the series due to her ‘ How To Build A Girl’ commitments. But filling in for her is a rich crop of starry guest actors including Mark Hamill. FX had formed Mark Hamill’s appearance on the comedy months back. But after the latest sneak-peek What We Do In The Shadows has revealed that more faces will join its season 2.
Joining Shadows for its season 2 premiere is Haley Joel Osment. The Sixth Sense actor plays Topher, the new familiar to Nadja (Natasia Demetriou) and Laszlo (Matt Berry). Topher will be a favorite at the vampire household, and this will not go down well with Guillermo. Apart from Osment, Marvel Universe’s Benedict Wong will also star in the first episode of What We Do In The Shadows Season 2. Wong will play Wallace, an acquaintance to Nadja and a necromancer. The Office and Brooklyn Nine-Nine actor Craig Robinson will also guest star on The Shadows 2. Robinson will play Derek, the leader of a team of amateur vampire hunters.
While most of the recurring cast members from Season 1 will not return for the show’s sophomore run, Jake McDorman (Murphy Brown) will be back, much to the viewers’ amusement. Jake’s character Jeff Suckler had climactically died in the season 1 finale. So, expectedly fans weren’t anticipating a return. But Jeff will be back, to reunite with his lover of 100,000 years, except for this time it won’t be a reincarnation. McDorman will play a ghost of his original character, and he will re-enter the show in its second episode.
