For Millennials. By Millennials.
English singer/songwriter, Dua Lipa, took the pop world by storm this year when she recently released the official music video for her latest single “Levitating”. The song featured Charlotte, North Carolina-based rapper, DaBaby.
Earlier this March, Dua released Future Nostalgia, her critically acclaimed sophomore follow-up. Spawning four other hit songs, “Don’t Start Now,” “Break My Heart,” “Physical,” and “Hallucinate.” She also released her amazing debut studio album Dua Lipa back in 2017, via Warner.
The song video opens with Dua Lipa lying on the hood of her car gazing up at the stars, looking stunningly gorgeous. As she takes the viewers on an intergalactic disco-tinged party, the audience takes a stellar leap. Traveling the galaxy whilst riding in a luxurious futuristic elevator, Dua is teleported up to the stars. Coming complete with designer outfits, shiny jewelry, glitter and roller skates, the celestial, Milky Way themes of the song come to life.
As the viewers enjoy Dua Lipa in her dance crazed party. DaBaby pops up with identical swag adding a pretty catchy verse to an already flawless electronic pop dance.
Dua Lipa & DaBaby
The funky dance pop and slight 80s feel of “Levitating” is far apart from anything DaBaby has ever done before. While he was clumsy on “Truth Hurts” and more comfortable on “My Oh My.” He really makes his presence felt while sounding at home and handles the challenge with ease.
In addition to scores of other collaborations and his own album. This is the seventh remix DaBaby has appeared on this year. The audiences have seen a lot more of him than asked this year. Since the public is clearly clamoring for female rappers, a female rapper would have likely brought something more attractive to this song.
Produced by Canadian electronic producer Koz and English electronic producer Stuart Price. The track itself, radiates electronic drip with catchy synths and luxuriant disco flavored production common all through Future Nostalgia.
Dua Lipa’s “Levitating” music video was directed by Warren Fu while the video was created using TikTok. She teamed up with American DJ The Blessed Madonna, formerly known as The Black Madonna, in August. For a remix album named Club Future Nostalgia. It is an album that remixes Dua’s songs from Future Nostalgia. While featuring guest appearances such as the illustrious one herself Madonna, Missy Elliot, Gwen Stefani and Mark Ronson. Dua also helped co-write Sia’s “Saved My Life” song back in May.
