You may hate Campbell Elliott from The Society, but you’ve got to give it to Toby Wallace for being such a good actor. However, if you’re still not going to admit to his acting prowess, perhaps his win at the Venice Film Festival 2019 might convince you.
In Babyteeth, Toby Wallace stars as Moses. He is the love interest of Eliza Scanlen’s Milla, a terminally ill teenager. Their relationship is a nightmare for Milla’s parents, but Milla teaches those in her orbit how to live like there is nothing to lose.
Wallace’s phenomenal acting as the teen drug lord won him the prestigious Marcello Mastroianni prize, awarded for outstanding performance by a young actor.
It should come as no surprise that The Society actor took to his Instagram to show how grateful he is. After winning, Wallace shared a post from the night. In the caption, he writes,
So bloody honoured to receive the Marcello Mastroianni award at the Venice film festival for our film ‘Baby Teeth’. @labiennale Italy
For all of those who don’t know this 22-year-old Australian actor, let us help you. Toby started acting when he was 14. After a short stint on Neighbours, he played the young Michael Hutchence in the 2014 mini-series Never Tear Us Apart, white supremacist Kane in the landmark series Romper Stomper. However, his most notable work is the psychopathic Campbell Eliot in the American Netflix series The Society. In the teen show, he stars alongside Alex Fitzalan and Kristine Forseth. He has also forged a career in film, including Nicholas Verso’s Boys in the Trees which screened in Venice three years ago.
