The anti-Semitic and Racist Jokes she made
Shumate has over 10 million followers on TikTok and she’s fairly liked on the platform due to her viral videos. However, things took a turn when a secondary TikTok account of hers made some offensive jokes and liked posts that were perpetuating racism.
Here are the anti-Semitic jokes she made:
“I like my bacon how I like my Jews. Burnt and crispy.”
This is in reference to the heinous acts where millions of Jews lost their lives in World War 2.
Moreover, she also liked a post that was racist in nature. The post read as:
I’m not racist. I have an African-American in my family tree. It’s just hanging
While some fans were upset and furious at Anna Shumate for making and supporting racist statements, some thought it was merely ‘dark humor’. They argued that if Shumate should be canceled over dark humor then shows like South Park should be canceled too. The majority however think there wasn’t anything funny about the jokes and called them out for being racist.
Anna Shumate apologizes for making such comments
She uploaded a TikTok video where she is officially apologizing for making the racist statements:
“The ones that I liked and commented back to were very unacceptable and wrong in so many ways. And I’m here to say that I’m sorry to everyone that I have affected with that video and those comments.”
“In no way was I trying to be malicious when I made that, I was just trying to make a joke, but that’s no excuse whatsoever.”
Anna Shumate apologized to her fans for letting them down and said she’s taking accountability for her actions. She further added that she should have known better than to make such jokes.
After making the apology on TikTok, she also uploaded an Instagram Story where she talked about her apology and shared that it might not be perfect because of her stuttering problem.
“Once again I am sorry my apology is not everything you are looking for but I do have a stuttering problem and if I talk too fast I don’t form sentences and lose my words.”
Moreover, Shumate added that people did have a right to be upset about the offensive jokes she made and that she did understand that. She said that calling people ‘snowflakes’ because they were offended isn’t okay because what she said wasn’t right.
To the people in my comment section or other comment sections stop calling other people sensitive/snowflakes because this is a very serious topic. I owned up to it because I know what I did was wrong, but to call people snowflakes because they have a problem with what I said is also wrong.”
So far Anna Shumate has been getting a lot of mixed responses from fans. Let’s see if she is able to move past this or not.
