For Millennials. By Millennials.
There are only a couple of days and then we will figure out if Sonic the Hedgehog movie was worth the wait. The movie has delayed its release date before finally releasing from February 12 and onwards. The release was because of Sonic’s redesign, something which disappointed a lot of Sonic fans. The first trailer showed a very “weird” -looking and way-too-realistic Hedgehog. Luckily, Paramount heard those cries and quickly went back to the drawing boards. A few months later, a second trailer released showed a massive improvement to the character’s looks. However, as the world shifts its focus to the new design and movie Spongebob Squarepants sure remembers what happened.
Spongebob Squarepants Trolls Sonic
Sonic is not the only one coming up with his movie this year, Spongebob has one too. Releasing in May 2020, The Spongebob Movie: Sponge On The Run shows what happened when Gary the snail goes missing one day. The adventure will take his owner and Patrick Star on a wild adventure where they will also get to meet Keanu Reeves as Sage. You can watch the trailer below if you skipped it:
Notice that this time, the people working on the movie did not mess up Spongebob’s “semi-realistic” looks. Perhaps that is why the sponge felt like boasting about it on Twitter. Mentioning Sonic the hedgehog’s design, Spongebob tweeted:
BOY! That is a scary and creepy looking sponge. Certainly not we grew up watching. Even a real sponge would have been better than this…monstrosity. This looks like some imaginary monster off Foster’s Home For Imaginary Friends.
It’s always great to see when one show/movie tries to do a crossover with a totally different show. In this case, things are not so different since both the movies are from Paramount Pictures. We may forget about what design Sonic the Hedgehog tried to give us, but it seems Spongebob Squarepants will always be there to remind us.
