Sonic the Hedgehog director opens up about the redesign

After receiving negative feedback on the release of the first trailer, Jeff Fowler has made changes to the character's design. Hoping for a positive response this time.

Sonic the Hedgehog hits UK cinemas on February 14, 2020. The audience witnessed the new, revamped design of their famous character in a new trailer. The first trailer of the movie faced a lot of backlash and resulted in the team making a remodeled design of Sonic the Hedgehog. Fans widely disapproved of the former character design. Because of his human-like features, especially the teeth!

Director Jeff Fowler gracefully acknowledged the response and retweeted saying:

Thank you for the support. And the criticism. The message is loud and clear… you aren’t happy with the design & you want changes. It’s going to happen. Everyone at Paramount & Sega are fully committed to making this character the BEST he can be.

After the release of the first trailer, fans ridiculed his appearance on social media. And Jeff Fowler took notice. Because of widespread disapproval, it prompted a speedy redesign.

Now, the director has spoken to Digital Spy and expressed his apprehension about the release of the new design. The new trailer shows all the significant changes Hedgehog’s character has undergone and this is giving the director anxiety.

Fowler’s remarks about the new trailer:

“I think it had been about five months that had passed since the first trailer. We had worked very hard on our updates to the character. It was definitely a little bit of like, ‘Oh man, what happens if they don’t like this?’

Jeff Fowler expressed that while he was working on the changes, everyone gave him a very positive response. And so he’s feeling optimistic that he’s made changes that fans will embrace and appreciate. Fowler said that creating a film where Sonic is an outsider makes it much easier to develop the plot. He went on to say that he feels less anxious than the night before and it elapsed even more quickly once the new trailer was released. Because it was such an incredible feeling to see Sonic 2.0 getting embraced the way it was!

The movie is due to release in UK cinemas on February 14, 2020. And fans response is much awaited by the anxious, committed Sonic director.
