According to a press release for the documentary, it will be a “portrait of Mendes’ life” and will include his musical journey for the past few years. This means the fans will be able to get a closer look at the singer than they have ever before.
Assuming from the time frame, the movie will likely follow Shawn on his whirlwind 2019 world tour. The same world tour took him around the world across the Americas, Europe, Australia, and Asia. This was also the same era he had released his hit collaboration with his popular girlfriend, Camila Cabello, called “Senorita.” This was released in June 2019 which means, if fans are lucky, they might be able to catch a glimpse of Shawn’s famous girlfriend.
The documentary is helmed by music video director, Grant Singer while the singer serves as an executive producer.
The news of Shawn’s upcoming movie was shared on his Twitter and Instagram. He wrote,
“Been working on this documentary for so long & am so excited to finally share it with you all.”
About Shawn’s New Documentary
Even though Shawn has decided not to reveal any details about the film itself, fans know that it is a concert documentary. However, what they do not know is if it is much like Beyonce’s ‘Homecoming’ or has more of a personal look at his songwriting process like Taylor Swift’s ‘Miss Americana’.
All we know is that Camila was a huge inspiration for his new album, ‘Wonder’. Shawn admitted to this in a new interview on SiriusXM’s Morning Mash-Up. Wonder is set to release on December 4, only days after the documentary premieres on Netflix.
“When your girlfriend is an insanely talented, real musician who writes her own music, it’s scary to write an album around her. She really was a champion for this album. And I remember back when I first started a lot of the concepts and they felt a little bit intimidating. She would [tell me] once a month, ‘Hey, just a reminder, this concept you’re on is incredible. It’s going to make people feel something really special. Don’t stop.’
Don’t forget to catch Shawn Mendes’s new documentary on November 23 on Netflix.
