This scene in The Many Saints of Newark trailer left fans heartbroken

Published by

We’re less than a month away from the highly anticipated Sopranos prequel movie – The Many Saints of Newark. And to reinforce the hype, Warner Bros. dropped a second official trailer of the movie. It was as expected – not giving too much away but keeping the fans on the edge. However, there was this one scene right at the end of the trailer that left Sopranos fans heartbroken. And this was because it was a huge callback to a massive death scene in the original show.

By the looks of the trailer, The Many Saints of Newark is going to be a huge easter egg in itself. It is going to take us back to the Satriale’s neighborhood in Newark, New Jersey. But, not in the early 2000s like The Sopranos, but in the 60s at a time when Tony Soprano was young. Sadly, the actor who portrayed the iconic character of Tony Soprano, James Gandolfini, passed away in 2013. And that paved the way for his son Michael Gandolfini to take on a younger version of his father’s role in the Sopranos prequel.

Other than that, we’ll also be seeing younger versions of Paulie Walnuts, Silvio Dante, Corrado ‘Uncle Junior’ Soprano, Lyvia Soprano, Johnny Boy Soprano (Tony’s dad), Jackie Aprile, and many more. But, the character that will be at the center of the movie will be Dickie Moltisanti (Alessandro Nivola), who is the father of Christopher Moltisanti, Tony Soprano’s protege. Dickie was like a mentor to Tony, and that is what brings us to the one scene which broke the hearts of Sopranos fans when they saw The Many Saints of Newark trailer.

The scene that we’re talking about is right at the end of The Many Saints of Newark trailer. In it, we see Dickie leaning an infant Christopher Moltisanti over to Tony Soprano. But, Christopher instead starts crying, which annoyed young Tony, who said:

It’s like I scare him or something.

Then, an old lady on the same dinner table said:

Some babies when they come into the world know all kinds of things from the other side.

In case you haven’t watched The Sopranos yet, then you might want to stop reading from here as it is SPOILER territory from here onwards. And seriously, what are you doing with your life if you haven’t watched The Sopranos yet? Rush on to HBO Max right now, as you will need it to fully understand what The Many Saints of Newark is about. Anyway, this scene was a massive foreshadowing of Christopher Moltisanti’s murder at the hands of Tony Soprano in the episode Kennedy and Heide of season 6. When fans saw this scene, it literally sent chills down their spine. It just showed a glimpse of what fans can expect from The Many Saints of Newark. The release date for The Sopranos prequel is October 1, 2021. Let’s see what a blinder David Chase the creator has in store for us.
