The Pokemon Company has announced that it is partnering with Tencent to create a new game, Pokemon Unite. The new game will be Multiplayer Online Battle Arena (MOBA) style where two teams will battle across multiple lanes with each player controlling a single character.

In this gaming style, all characters have their unique skills which give them their unique pros and cons against other characters. Timi Studios is developing Pokemon Unite. This is a subsidiary to Tencent with game developing experience in MOBAs, including Honor of Kings. Pokemon Unite will support cross-platform gameplay and is free to play. However, there will be the in-game currency to unlock several items from its Shop. Lit of playable pokemon characters include the following:

  • Pikachu,
  • Clefable,
  • Gengar,
  • Snorlax,
  • Lucario,
  • Squirtle,
  • Charmander,
  • and many more!

Perhaps the biggest excitement will come from the fact that pokemon can evolve during a match.

Pokemon is a massive franchise with a very different fan following that has been growing since the Gameboy and anime days. Although there have been many spin-offs to the franchise, Pokemon Unite will be the first time the company will be stepping into something that mostly involves competition.

As for Tencent, it was last year when Pokemon announced that they are teaming with the company for internet services, gaming, films, and more. This company is also responsible for Nintendo Switch’s release in China.
