Paul McCartney & Bruce Springsteen Perform ‘I Saw Her Standing There’ Live!

Published by

Paul McCartney and Bruce Springsteen are two of the biggest rock stars in history. You can’t get any bigger than these two. But, they rarely crossed each other’s paths in their lifetimes. And with the Coronavirus pandemic, it gets even more difficult to do so. But, this one time, both McCartney and Springsteen performed on stage and sang one of Paul‘s first and biggest hits as part of The Beatles. And it’s a performance you don’t want to miss out on!

Springsteen is one of The Beatles’ biggest fans

It’s safe to say that without Paul McCartney and The Beatles, there would have been no modern-day music. And that also includes Bruce Springsteen and his E Street Band. Springsteen himself admitted it, as ‘I Want To Hold Your Hand’ by the fab four changed his life! He once said:

“This was another song that changed the course of my life. It was a very raucous sounding record when it came out of the radio. It really was the song that inspired me to play rock and roll music – to get a small band and start doing some small gigs around town. It was life-changing. It’s still a beautiful record.”

Moreover, Bruce Springsteen further complimented The Beatles and Paul McCartney, including their early songs. Before Rubber Soul, the fab four were relatively conservative in exploring their talents in their songs. The lyrics were simple and nothing that looks similar to their later psychedelic genre of music. But, even that early music inspired Springsteen, as he further said:

“If you listen to the great Beatle records, the earliest ones where the lyrics are incredibly simple. Why are they still beautiful? Well, they’re beautifully sung, beautifully played, and the mathematics in them is elegant. They retain their elegance.”

When Bruce Springsteen shared a stage with his idol, Paul McCartney

Even though Springsteen shared the stage with Paul McCartney for the first time, that meeting was cut short because of time constraints. However, he got a chance to play with his idol all over again! McCartney welcomed him back on stage with a very loud roar from the crowd during his show at Madison Square Garden in 2017.

Once Springsteen and McCartney were on stage, both of them sang the first song from The Beatles debut album, Please Please Me“I Saw Her Standing There”. Both Bruce and Paul did the vocal duty. Whereas Steven Van Zandt, whom Sopranos fans are very familiar with because of his role as Silvio Dante, played the lead guitar! Here’s the live performance for you to enjoy:
