Netflix’s ‘Julie and the Phantoms’ Season 2 | Is it Coming?

Netflix recently released Kenny Ortega’s new show ‘Julie and the Phantoms’. And personally, it’s one of the most heartfelt and entertaining teen shows I’ve seen in a while! It’s got great music, sincere acting, a unique story-line, and pretty hilarious jokes. The cast’s chemistry with each other is apparent on-screen as well as off-screen. The story follows a girl, Julie, and how she forms a band with three ghosts! Of course, the show’s become an instant hit with people! That’s why we’re all aching for the answer to know whether there is a season 2 for Julie and the Phantoms coming!

Has Netflix confirmed a season 2?

Unfortunately, Netflix has not made any confirmation on whether there will be a Julie and the Phantoms season 2. It will be a while since we get any confirmation it seems. But there is a high probability that the streaming service will confirm season 2 as well. The reason for that is that the show belongs to an icon, Kenny Ortega. Ortega is known for his popular works of High School Musical and Descendants.

This show was based on a Brazillian sitcom ‘Julie e os Fantasmas’, Ortega transformed it into a wonderful show that attracted an audience from all around the world. He credits the Brazilian producers:

“The producers of the original Julie e os Fantasmas said, ‘Take liberty and have your experience with this title’. So, we were given a no-boundaries kind of opportunity to come into this and to play with the mythology and to deepen the stories. It was a sitcom over 10 years old. We wanted to brighten it, freshen it, and place it in the City of Angels and to play with the mystic specialness of Los Angeles.”

Kenny Ortega shares that he loved the idea behind it. Furthermore, there were some changes from the show to make it more modern.

“I love just the basis of it. Come on, a little girl, awaking the three ghosts exploding into her life and sharing this love of music and starting a band. There was a little Hannah Montana there. It ignited my spirit because it had all of those elements that excite me about wanting to do something, and heart, and magic, and surprise, and action, and adventure.”

The fans are loving the show so far, with Netflix’s social media accounts regularly posting about it:

If it gets confirmed, what will be the Julie and The Phantoms season 2 release date

I’m predicting, also hoping, that Netflix won’t take long to confirm another season of this amazing show. After the confirmation, Julie and the Phantoms season 2 will probably start production in the initial months of 2021. There might be some delays due to the ongoing pandemic.

However, many movies and TV shows have figured out ways to film and work on the shoots following all the safety protocols. Plus, we’ll also hopefully get a vaccine by then!

If the production starts in early 2021, we could expect Julie and the Phantoms season 2 to arrive in late 2021. It might be perfect if it comes next year on Halloween!

The cast of season 2’s Julie and the Phantoms

The amazing cast will surely return for season 2 if it gets confirmed. The main cast including Madison Reyes (Julie), Charlie Gillespie (Luke), Owen Patrick Joyner (Alex), and Jeremy Shada (Reggie) will definitely be there! After all, they are Julie and the three phantoms: Luke, Alex, and Reggie! Netflix needs to give us another season so that we can enjoy their new music together.

We’ll also be seeing Julie’s best friend Flynn, Jadah Marie, in the second season. Plus, Savannah May playing Carrie. Moreover, Nick (Sacha Carlson) whose body was possessed by the show’s villain, Caleb, at the end of season 1. The villain, Caleb, was played by Cheyenne Jackson and he’s sure to join the 2nd season too.

And of course, how can we forget Alex’s precious Willie, played by Boo Boo Stewart. There would also be Julie’s dad Ray, played by Carlos Ponce. And Julie’s little brother Carlos, played by Sonny Bustamante.

Where season 1 of Julie and the Phantoms ended

Julie ends up forming a band with the original Sunset Curve’s Alex, Luke, and Reggie. These three died 25 years ago and when Julie puts on their CD, they suddenly appear.  Only Julie can see them at the start, but it turns out that when they all perform, others are able to see them as well.

But then the trio finds out that the fourth member of their group ended up stealing Sunset Curve’s music and made it his own. In an effort to get revenge from him, Alex, Luke, and Reggie go to Caleb’s Club in order to take his help.

Caleb is a ghost that has the ability to make other ghosts and himself visible to others. Turns out he’s threatened by the boys’ powers to become visible while they are performing, so he puts a curse on them. They have no choice either to stop existing forever or to join Caleb’s club.

But one thing they can do is to find out what their unfinished business is so that they can cross over to the other side like they were originally supposed to. The unfinished business is playing at the Orpheum.

But when they all play together, Julie later finds them back at her garage in a weakened state. In a painful goodbye between Julie and Luke, a miracle happens. Their curse gets removed from their souls! And Julie ends up being able to feel her band members!

This does make it a happy ending until we see Caleb possess the young body of Julie’s friend Nick.

What can the fans expect from a possible season 2?

The showrunner, Kenny Ortega, teased that the pressing questions will be answered pretty early on in the next season:

“Honestly, that gets answered very early on in the next season. So I’ll get socked if I spoiled that. It was meant to leave you in some suspense and hopefully some intrigue – hopeful that something magical is occurring, and that it’s not the end for these three characters.”

Madison Reyes also hopes that the audience will get to know more about Alex and Reggie’s stories. In season 1 of Julie and Phantoms, we only got to see Luke’s backstory when Julie went to go visit his parents:

“The thing I’m hoping for, if we get a season two, is learning more about Alex and Reggie. Their characters are just so sweet and cute, and I just feel like I definitely want to learn more about their backgrounds. We touched upon Luke’s, and we know a little about how Julie and her mom’s relationship was. I just want to expand more on the characters.

Moreover, Madison Reyes is excited to see if the boys’ powers get more powerful in the next season! The actress also wants a love triangle between Luke, Julie, and Nick developing more in season 2.

We’ll have to wait and see if we get another season or not! It would be really great to see what happens with these amazing characters.
