Netflix documentary ‘Babies’ will Explore Child Development

For years after being in the streaming market and showcasing a pool of documentaries, Netflix is now venturing into the world of newborn babies!

Yes, you heard that right! Netflix is expanding its growing library of fascinating documentaries with an adorable new addition: Babies. ‘Babies’ will air on February 21st, 2020. This is a new multi-part series that follows newborns from their first day into the world until their first step. The documentary will follow fifteen international families over the course of three years. Netflix says:

Babies is a landmark documentary series that explores the miracle of the first full year of life through the pioneering work of leading scientists from across the globe.

The program features Rebecca Spencer from UMASS, Michael Georgieff from the University of Minnesota. The show also includes;  Professor Susan Lynch from the University of California, San Francisco and Professor Ruth Feldman, IDC, Herzliya, Israel. Babies will collectively talk about the importance of naps for learning, how baby memories are formed and how living with pets is beneficial for babies. The documentary will also explore the discovery that the rise in the bonding hormone that occurs in new mothers can also take place in men.

This documentary is produced by Jane Root who says,

This series showcases incredible, groundbreaking science revealing the developmental leaps and bounds babies go through in the first year of life while capturing the personal and emotional journey of the family as a whole.

For many of the parents on the team both in front and behind the camera this has been one of the rewarding and insightful project to be a part of!

Jane is also the founder and CEO of Nutopia. According to E!, Nutopia Production is behind Babies for Netflix. Nutopia’s recent credits include The Last Czars for Netflix. It also includes One Strange Rock for National Geographic and PBS’s How We Got To Now.

About the show

This documentary will take you on a journey through all the major milestones of the development of an infant. The show will broaden your horizons about child development like never before. It includes scientific research and embraces the scientist’s own personal journey while discovering the little, infant mind.
