For Millennials. By Millennials.
Tom and Jerry will cheer up the jolly season next year as Warner Bros. on Friday moved the upcoming film to a December 23, 2020, release. Tim Story directs this new live-action picture of the beloved cat and mouse. It was primarily planned for release in April 2021 but not anymore.
Tom and Jerry will star Chloe Grace Moretz, Michael Pena, Ken Jeong, Rob Delaney, Jordan Bolger, and Pallavi Sharda according to Hollywood reporter. Warner Bros. Animation Group is developing this project.
This new film will show the cat, Tom, and the mouse, Jerry moving to a new fancy hotel in New York. Kayla (Moretz) an employee at the hotel, will get fired if she does not get rid of Jerry. So, the task needs to be done before a high-class wedding at the hotel. Her solution becomes hiring piano playing Tom to get rid of the annoying mouse.
The beginning of the beloved characters
Tom and Jerry began life as a series of long-running shorts created by William Hanna and Joseph Barbera in 1940. Their plot revolved around a house cat, Tom and his forever long fights with the mouse, Jerry. Seven of the shorts, released by MGM, won Oscars from 1943 to 1953. The animated pair have remained in the pop culture stage over the years. They received their first full-length theatrical film with 1993’s ‘Tom and Jerry: The Movie’.
It sounds like good laughs here and there. But surely there will be some chatter leading up to the film’s release. Many worry about its suspected violence for young, impressionable viewers. But let’s see what happens.
The beloved cat and mouse will take over the big screen just in time for this year’s holiday season.
