Joaquin Phoenix and Casey Affleck Remove the Only Thing Tying Them Together

Once they were friends, then they became brothers-in-law. However, it has been years since Joaquin Phoenix and Casey Affleck talked. Now they have removed the one thing tying them and has ended relations of all kinds.

In 1995, they met on the sets of Gus Van Sant’s film, To Die For. Just like their characters in the film, Joaquin Phoenix and Casey Affleck became friends in real life. When Affleck met Phoenix’s sister, Summer, he became interested in her. Initially, they kept things casual but began dating in 2000. While talking about it, Affleck said:

  “She was going out with someone else and I said, ‘Man she’s cute,’ and Joaquin said, ‘You should see if she’ll got out with … don’t worry about that dude. So he was leaving town one day and said, ‘My sister’s in my apartment and she’s all by herself – would you mind checking in on her?’ So, I checked in on her, and it stuck.”

 

The couple got married in 2006 and have two sons together. However, they separated privately in 2015 and officially got divorced in 2017. Throughout their marriage, Casey Affleck shared a strong bond with his brother-in-law, Joaquin Phoenix.

After Affleck’s divorce, he and Joaquin Phoenix had a fallout and their friendship ended. When asked about it, Phoneix said:

“My sister and him divorced. And I haven’t spoken directly to him or indirectly in a long time. Three or four years.”

However, they did share property together in new York. In the TriBeCa area in Manhattan, New York, the actor duo owned an industrial loft. Originally, the loft was three separate apartments which are combined to make one. It has views of the Hudson River. Recently, Joaquin Phoenix and Casey Affleck sold the loft for three million dollars. It was the last thing that attached them. However, now they have no reason to ever talk or meet.
