How Jennifer Garner Saved Ben Affleck’s ‘The Way Back’

When Ben Affleck almost lost his film, The Way Back, his ex-wife, Jennifer Garner, came to the rescue. The director explains how.

Many times, when couples split between Hollywood, they remain friendly and co-parent their kids. Similarly, Jennifer Garner and Ben Affleck are friendly exes who are always there for their kids as a family. Not only that, Garner prevented Affleck’s latest film, ‘The Way Back’, from getting shelved.

Although they met on the sets of ‘Pearl Harbor’, Ben Affleck and Jennifer Garner did not start dating until 2005

After that film, they also starred together in ‘Daredevil’. However, their relationship began in 2004. In 2005, Jennifer Garner and Ben Affleck got married. After three kids and ten years of marriage, the couple separated in 2015. Their divorce was finalized in 2018. Despite not being together, both the actors have been extremely friendly and civilized for their kids. Not only that, Jennifer Garner gives him moral support whenever needed. Despite being heartbroken, Affleck does not put his career on the back foot

His latest film, The Way Back, is set to be released this month. Directed by Gavin O’Connor, the film revolves around a windowed, former basketball player who is struggling to cope with addiction. Meanwhile, he is also trying to revive his career by coaching a high school basketball team. The film’s story seems close to Affleck’s reality as the actor himself has been under treatment multiple times for his alcohol addiction.

This is why his film was about to be canceled until Jennifer Garner came to the rescue

Right before the film was about to start production, Ben Affleck checked into the rehab yet again. Warner Bros was about to pull the plug on ‘The Way Back’ when Jennifer Garner called the director. In an interview, Gavin O’Connor said:

So what happened was, just as we started prepping the movie, Ben fell off the wagon. So he ended up going to rehab, and I didn’t know if the movie was over. The studio certainly thought the movie was over. His ex–wife Jennifer Garner called me up, and told me that when he went to rehab, he took a basketball with him. She said, “Gavin, he’s asking you, please don’t pull the plug on the movie, he really wants to do this.”
