So, it’s public knowledge at this point that there is acrimony between Britney Spears and her family. And most of that has been revealed by their recent court proceedings. Now, however, it looks like the feud has bled into Instagram as well. This time, the pop icon had a feud with her sister Jamie-Lynn Spears on Instagram, which recently got quite out of hand.
Last month, Britney Spears literally broke the internet after her bombshell court hearing, where she revealed the gruesome details of her court-mandated conservatorship. She revealed how she can’t even hang out with her partner without her father’s, Jamie Spears, permission. Moreover, she doesn’t even have control over her body, as she can’t have further children due to an IUD that she can’t have removed without her father’s permission. This regressive conservatorship has been in place since 2008, but by now, Britney has had enough. She wants the conservatorship to end and would even consider suing her family, who “did nothing” for her as she struggled.
Many fans who believed Britney Spears construed that Jamie-Lynn Spears must be one of those family members as well. However, soon after the testimony, Jamie Lynn took to Instagram to claim that she was not being referenced and that she adores and supports her elder sister. She said that she was “proud” of her sister for “using her voice” and speaking up about the horrifying details of her conservatorship. Jamie Lynn said in her Instagram story:
Maybe I didn’t support her the way the public would like me to, with a hashtag on a public platform. But I can assure you that I’ve supported my sister long before there was a hashtag, and I’ll support her long after.
However, soon after Britney Spears posted on Instagram, making it abundantly clear in all but naming her that she indeed meant to point fingers at her sister as well. She wrote in the caption of her post:
How dare the people you love the most say anything at all — did they even put a hand out to lift me up at the TIME!!!??? How dare you make it public that NOW you CARE — did you put your hand out when I was drowning??? Again, NO.
But, Britney wasn’t done with her sister yet. She posted again on Instagram, doubling down on her sister, saying:
I don’t like that my sister showed up at an awards show and performed MY SONGS to remixes. My so-called support system hurt me deeply. This conservatorship killed my dreams.
Well, after these scathing words, Jamie Lynn responded with her own post, sharing her selfie. In the caption, she wrote, followed by a heart and victory sign emoji:
May the peace of the Lord be with you, and your spirit
However, shortly afterward, Britney responded with another damning post against her sister on Instagram. In the post, she danced to Billie Eilish’s Bad Guy, writing in her caption:
May the Lord wrap your mean a*s up in joy today
Soon, fans connected the dots and realized who the caption addressed. And in the responses, many fans and celebrities alike commended her bravery. Celebrity Will.i.am even commented in the replies, saying with lots of heart emojis “I love it”. The pop icon has also collaborated with him in the past and now showed his support as well publicly.
However, after seeing the traction that her sister’s post was getting, Jamie Lynn Spears immediately edited the caption and removed all but the emojis. Furthermore, she also disabled the comments underneath the post on Instagram. After seeing that, Britney edited her caption as well, removing the clear response to her sister. Despite the precautionary measures, however, fans caught what Jamie Lynn was trying to do.
