Gal Gadot, Ruffalo, Amy Adams And Others Get Backlash Over Quarantine ‘Imagine’ Cover

Published by

It’s really not easy to live in quarantine. Plus, the constant fear of catching the Coronavirus doesn’t help either. So, Gal Gadot decided she might help in uplifting everyone a little. She teamed up with some other artists and posted a cover of ‘Imagine’ by John Lennon on Instagram. However, instead of praises, she got a lot of backlash from Twitter!

The cover

Gal Gadot really assembled a high-profile cast for this cover. It included cameos of James Marsden, Sarah Silverman, Mark Ruffalo, Jimmy Fallon, Natalie Portman, Zoë Kravitz, Amy Adams, Pedro Pascal, Sia, Lynda Carter, Chris O’Dowd, Dawn O’Porter, Will Ferrell, Norah Jones, Ashley Benson, Kaia Gerber, Cara Delevingne, Annie Mumolo, Kristen Wiig, Jamie Dornan, Labrinth, Eddie Benjamin, Leslie Odom Jr., and finally, Maya Rudolph.

Yeah, it’s a massive list. And the cover was nice too, well, sort of. Gal Gadot and the others aren’t professional singers so we can’t expect them to sing flawlessly. But, that wasn’t what the backlash was about.

Twitter went crazy over thus Gal Gadot initiated the challenge

Twitter wasn’t focused on the cringe factor of the video. The criticism was focused on how rich artists like Gal Gadot didn’t really do anything concrete to help the needy. At a time when the Coronavirus is wreaking havoc, they should be donating and helping people out. Instead, they’re singing covers of ‘Imagine’ by John Lennon which doesn’t make any difference. Here are some of the tweets that went viral:

Moreover, a lot of people focused on the verse,

Imagine no possesions
I wonder if you can
No need for greed or hunger
A brotherhood of man.

Many tweets suggested that singing this was hypocritical of them. Because they’re not sharing their possessions right now with those in need. After all, we live in an unequal society. It would help a lot if privileged artists like Gal Gadot donated towards helping those affected by COVID-19. Hence, that is why many people think the backlash was justified. Here are some of the tweets that talked about this:

However, there are some celebrities who made massive donations. And they’re being praised for doing the right thing too.

Warning! Better check yourself, you’re not looking too good.

Some celebrities who donated heavily

There were some artists and celebrities that actually made a difference by donating. And people mentioned their contribution too in response to Gal Gadot’s cover!

Moreover, Miley Cyrus and Rita Ora are doing their part to help their fans during the Coronavirus pandemic! Similarly, former Manchester United player Gary Neville also opened his hotels for the NHS staff. As we all know, the NHS in the UK is in much need of help because of COVID-19. Therefore, Gary gave two of his hotels to help the staff out as much as he can. This is the kind of help people need in times like these.

Of course, we’re sure Gal Gadot shared the cover with good intentions. After all, John Lennon’s ‘Imagine’ is the best song to sing for peace. However, in these difficult times, people need more concrete steps than just singing songs. Rich people can and should donate to the cause of helping those affected by Coronavirus. We hope that a vaccine for COVID-19 coronavirus (SARS-CoV2) is on its way, but till then these artists have to step up!
