Donald Trump & Joe Biden will have Mics muted in their Last Debate!

Published by

The Commission for Presidential Debates has had to change the rules of the last debate that’s going to take place on Thursday. Under these new rules, President Donald Trump and former Vice President Joe Biden will have two minutes of uninterrupted time to speak in each of the 15-minute segments of the debate. And the commission will make sure of that by muting the other candidate’s mic.

The commission announced in a press release regarding the upcoming debate:

The only candidate whose microphone will be open during these two-minute periods is the candidate who has the floor under the rules.

Once the two minutes are over, Biden and Trump will be given time for discussion. Moreover, the campaigns of both candidates have accepted the changes. These changes took place after the two candidates failed to have a civil debate in the first Presidential debate. It was extremely chaotic and no candidate got a chance to justify their position on issues. Moreover, the 29th September debate, mediated by Fox News Presenter Chris Wallace, lacked any kind of structure too. Therefore, the commission had to bring forth these changes. Its purpose is to give President Trump and former Vice President Biden an equitable time in answering questions.

Despite these seemingly neutral and well thought out changes, Donald Trump’s campaign did not hesitate in throwing shade at the commission. They said they were “committed to debating” Biden;

… regardless of last minute rule changes from the biased commission in their latest attempt to provide advantage to their favored candidate. This was supposed to be the foreign policy debate, so the President still looks forward to forcing Biden to answer the number one relevant question of whether he’s been compromised by the Communist Party of China.

Donald Trump wanted foreign policy to be the center of this debate

This time, Donald Trump’s aides requested the commission to focus this debate on foreign policy. Initially, NBC News moderator Kristen Welker was going to choose the questions. The topics under discussion are going to be: race, national security, leadership, America’s families, COVID-19, and climate change. The Trump campaign said:

We understand that Joe Biden is desperate to avoid conversations on his own foreign policy record, especially since President Trump has secured historic peace agreements among Israel, the United Arab Emirates, and Bahrain.

There was also going to be a second debate between Donald Trump and Joe Biden. However, a dispute over safety protocols resulted in its cancelation. Those disputes emerged after Donald Trump tested positive for COVID-19 and had to be hospitalized. He refused to hold a virtual event. And that is when the two campaigns decided to hold separate competing town hall meetings instead. The bizarre thing was that the candidates held the two events at the same time.
