For Millennials. By Millennials.
Britney Spears is the total diva. She has such a good music history. Her fans from all over the world adore the woman. The latest attraction for every Britney Spears Fan is ‘The Zone – A Britney Spears Pop-up Experience‘. The pop-up launched in L.A almost a month ago now but, with some fans being overly enthusiastic of The Zome, some are boycotting it. Yep! Boycotting the ultimate fan experience’. Why you may ask? It is because according to many, since before The Zone launched, fans were suspicious of it. It has a lot to do with the #FreeBritney movement.
Why Britney Spears Fans find The Zone launch a bit suspicious?
The 37-year-old pop star is such a Golden Girl. However, as most fans know, she has been subject to an almost 12-year-old conservatorship since 2008.
What is a conservatorship?
This is when a court can mandate a person who is deemed incapacitated (not able to function) due to, either old age or a mental/physical illness. So, all of their financial and some personal matters are all only to be seen by the person selected as their conservator.
Why is Britney involved in a conservatorship case?
Back in 2008, the court-mandated Britney Spear’s father as her conservator. This was imposed upon her after her multiple trips to rehab. She was even hospitalized under a psychiatric hold twice! So, following this, her father, Jamie to this day handles all of her finances and matters that involve some decision making.
Fans of Britney, have this movement they call #FreeBritney. The movement is all about people who join together on social media to voice support for Britney Spears. When court hearings are held, these fans take it upon themselves to be present outside the courthouse to protest in favor of their popstar.
Furthermore, Britney’s conservatorship case dates were also decided around the dates of the launch of ‘The Zone’.
So, according to Kevin Wu, a Britney Spears Fan interviewed by LA Magazine,
If it is opening on the same day, then that is a very curious coincidence. I think it’s very curious and I think this does deflect attention from the #FreeBritney movement.
Here’s another interesting fact, USA Today, talked to an experienced Conservatorship case lawyer, Martin, who says;
There’s been no formal request by her to get out of conservatorship
So, one cannot help but wonder, maybe the #FreeBritney movement is pointless. Britney may just be willingly letting herself be taken care of.
Anyway, The Zone seems like a total treat for all fans!
