HGTV is beta-running its gears to premiere an overhauled show of the classic 60’s sitcom next year. This Thursday, the surviving cast members of the iconic show ‘The Brady Bunch’ met at the North Hollywood home. This also happened to be the setting for the show’s original airing. And this reunion kick-started the developments for the forthcoming show A Very Brady Renovation. In November 2018, it was announced that Christopher Knight, Mike Lookinland, Maureen McCormick, Susan Olsen, Eve Plumb, and Barry Williams would be reuniting for the upcoming 2019 HGTV series A Very Brady Renovation. The show will follow a complete overhaul of the house used in the sitcom’s exterior shots.
HGTV will telecast a Very Brady Renovation next year. And for that reason, it purchased the iconic property earlier this August. The house mainly consists of an archived interior. Hence the makers are planning a fully-fledged renovation on the inside. The network recently confirmed that it would not compromise the instantly recognizable neighborhood view. Hence, the advancements will only be limited to the inside of the house. HGTV had bought the over-priced home for 3.5 million dollars, outbidding several large numbers. One of the highest bets was placed by Lance Bass, who would have renovated the house to match the set from the 70s.
At the iHeart Radio festival in Las Vegas, Lance Bass commented,
“I’m a huge Brady fan, so I wanted to turn the house into what we all knew from the television show because all they did was use it for exterior. The inside looks nothing like it, so I was gonna add a lot of square footage, add a second floor and try to turn it into that iconic set.”
The Brady Bunch made a benchmark for family-oriented sitcoms. Interior shots for the TV sitcom were filmed at a different location — Paramount Studios’ Stage 5 in Hollywood. The show had an overwhelming lucrative 5 season run between 1969 and 1974.
Loren Ruch, senior VP at HGTV, says, “What’s so exciting about this project is that we are creating one of the most iconic homes from many of our viewers’ childhoods.” Maureen McCormick, who played “Marcia” on the show, was also bidding for the house. But the greater demand made her move on.
