1. Ginger Snaps

Falling among one of the best teenage werewolf movies ever made, this 2000s movie follows the lives of two sisters. Ginger and Brigitte are death-obsessed and co-dependent sisters. However, things start to change when Ginger is bitten by a werewolf. And her transformation leads to something very dangerous. Brigitte sets out to find a way to help her older sibling.

‘Ginger Snaps’ is the perfect fusion between horror and dark comedy. And is said to be a well-made horror film. The audience highly appreciated the cast as their talent brought out the best in the characters, making the audience feel empathetic towards each character. 2. An American Werewolf in London

The No.1 rated werewolf movie of all time, an American Werewolf in London follows two American college students, ‘David and Jack’. The film then follows how the surviving student starts seeing his dead friend. Who then tells him he is going to transform into a werewolf.

3. The Howling

The Howling is one of the three films that made 1981 the year that changed the werewolf movie genre. The story follows Karen who decides to escape from reality in a secluded place called the Colony. She decides to do this after she has a traumatic encounter with a serial killer.

However, she soon comes to find out about the actual truth. The truth which is not seen, and that there is something else going on. This 1981 film makes for the perfect suspense werewolf movie to keep you on the edge of your seat.

4. The Wolfman

Lawrence gets attacked while he is on the hunt to avenge his brother’s death. Resulting in him having to turn into a werewolf every full moon night. This movie is also on our best werewolf movies watch list.

5. Dog Soldiers

According to the critics, this is one of the best werewolf movies out there. Dog Soldier follows a group of British soldiers who go out to the Scottish Highlands for training. However, they are in for a surprise. Initially, they are unaware of the battle they’re about to face. And they have to fight hard to save themselves as they are hunted by the werewolves.

6. Silver Bullet

An adaptation of the Stephen King novel ‘Cycle of the Werewolf’, Silver Bullet comes under the less intense and family-friendly part of the genre. The film follows how a small and quiet town starts experiencing brutal killings which leads to the close-knit community starting to face a conflict with each other.

Amidst all that a young boy named Marty starts suspecting that the killer is in fact a werewolf. This film provides you with the typical Stephen King touch, a little humor, and a few jumps of a scare here and there, making it worth a watch.

7. Bad Moon

Some would say Bad Moon falls within the most underrated film in the werewolf genre. As it follows a guy named Ted who is in search of a cure after he gets bitten by a werewolf. While doing so, he decides to live in a camper where his sister and her son live.

One of the unique parts of this movie is about the narration of some scenes from the family dog’s perspective. This then leads to one of the most memorable scenes of the film, a showdown between the dog and the werewolf. This movie is also among our best werewolf movies list to watch.

8. Wolf

A film featuring some of the biggest industry names like Jack Nicholson and Michelle Pfeiffer. Wolf gives insight into the life of Will Randal, a publisher going through a dark time in his life, with him losing his job and finding out his wife is having an affair. But things go down hill when he is attacked by a wild animal. And falls prey to the werewolf curse.

The story follows how he struggles between the curse and trying to get his job back. While this is not one of your typical gruesome and dark werewolf movies, it does provide a different but mature twist on the genre.

9. Late Phases

Even though it starts with an epic beginning, the story itself unfolds rather slowly, giving time to take in every piece of information. Featuring screenwriter turned actor, Nick Damici, the film narrates the story of a secluded community that falls prey to vicious and deathly attacks. However, when a blind veteran (Damici) moves into the neighborhood, he sets out to find the culprit. Only to discover that the culprit is a deadly beast.

Damici’s acting was well-received by the audience and made it a highlight of the film. Moreover, another highlight of the film is the werewolf transformation scene. That is said to be one of the best transformation scenes after ‘the American Werewolf in London’ of course.
