Ellen DeGeneres and her show are under major fire these days because of the employees that have spoken up against the misconduct that occurred. There were cases of sexual harassment, racism, and a toxic work environment that affected multiple employees. Upon hearing the news, Ellen DeGeneres vowed to change that and do right by her team. An investigation took place and it resulted in the show’s top three producers being let go. But Ellen’s public image has greatly tarnished and people no longer see her as the kind talk show host. Some celebrities are still supporting Ellen, though some are taking a different stance and speaking out against her.
The actor Brad Garrett is popular for his portrayal as Robert Marone on the show ‘Everybody Loves Raymond’. While many celebrities were showing their support for Ellen DeGeneres by detailing their nice experience on the show, Garrett took the side of employees who spoke against her.
Ellen DeGeneres penned an emotional apology to her staff members and said that she had no idea the work environment was toxic. She stated that she could not manage and monitor the show as the show grew to a big size. On Twitter, he commented on the article saying:
Sorry but it comes from the top @TheEllenShow Know more than one who were treated horribly by her. Common knowledge.
She’s an actress who was in Back to the Future movies and Howard the Duck. Lea Thompson didn’t say much against Ellen DeGeneres but she merely sided with what Brad Garrett said regarding Ellen:
Ashley Nicole Black and Andy Richter both work on a talk show. Nicole Black works as a writer on Full Frontal with Samantha Bee. Meanwhile, Richter is the sidekick on Conan O’Brien’s late night talk shows.
While not naming Ellen DeGeneres directly, they both did call her out for her actions. Ashley Nicole Black shared that celebrities may be aware of how they are treated differently due to their status. Moreover, she said that this kind of toxic work environments is generally accepted:
I don’t think it’s that celebs “don’t know” people treat them differently. I think it’s that toxic workplaces are widely accepted in this industry, ppl are expected not to complain, and higher ups dont care how folks are treated as long as the work is done on time and on budget.
I agree, although there’s toxicity tolerated by higher-ups in every industry, but few of those workplaces are controlled by a manager who’s entire brand is being “nice.”
America’s Got Talent judge Howard Stern didn’t show his support for Ellen DeGeneres nor did he outright call her out. But the radio host did share on SiriusXM’s ‘Howard Stern Show’ that he would completely ‘change his whole image’ if he was dealing with what Ellen DeGeneres is:
“I’d go on the air and be a son of a b—-, people would come on and I would go, ‘F— you.’ Just be a prick.”
The radio host has been on Ellen’s show multiple times and even brought his wife. In one episode, Howard even remarried his wife on the show. They were good friends but it’s unclear where their friendship is now.
Both Howard and his wife Beth have both appeared on “The Ellen DeGeneres Show” several times and have been longtime friends with the host. During a 2019 episode of the show, Howard and Beth even remarried each other in front of the studio audience.
There were many incidents happening that tarnished Ellen DeGeneres’ image. When she was seen with George Bush at a game, many people including celebrities such as Mark Ruffalo publicly called her for having friends that are responsible for heinous war crimes. After that, people assumed Ellen DeGeneres was not as nice as people thought as her loyalties lie with an elitist class belonging to George Bush and the like.
But NikkieTutorials was the first guest to fully open up about her bad experience on the show:
Call me naive, but I kind of expected to be welcomed with confetti cannons: ‘Welcome to The Ellen DeGeneres Show!’ But instead, I was greeted by an angry intern who was a bit overworked. I was expecting a Disney show, but got Teletubbies after dark.”
NikkieTutorials also shared that she was not allowed to use the private bathroom as it was reserved for the Jonas Brothers.
Another incident occurred where there was an awkward moment between her and Dakota Johnson. Ellen DeGeneres was caught in a lie and that further cemented the image and idea that Ellen isn’t as honest as she appears to be.
Even though there are many people online cancelling Ellen DeGeneres or just calling her out, there are many who are still showing support for the talk show host. Prominent celebrities that were quick to take Ellen’s side are Ashton Kutcher, Kevin Hart, Katy Perry and Jay Leno.
