For Millennials. By Millennials.
Hollywood has quite a liberal image all around the world. It has always presented itself as a tolerant place for all kinds of people. That includes people with different sexual orientations, religions, ethnicities, and cultures. However, things have been unsteady ever since Donald Trump took charge of the White House. What would it mean for a Hollywood celebrity to openly support Trump? Antonio Sabàto Jr. did that, and now he tells the world what’s the cost of supporting Trump in Hollywood.
How supporting Trump affected Antonio Sabàto’s career
In an interview with Variety, the Italian-born model opened up about his career since he went public for his support to Trump. He was one of the few actors to support Trump in the 2016 elections. So much so that he even gave a public speech at the Republican National Convention. Moreover, he told Variety:
I had to pay all my debts. I was blacklisted. All my representatives left me, from agents to managers to commercial agents.
Ever since then, Antonio Sabàto has moved to Florida to California to find work. He was fired from all his ongoing projects, despite being in the industry for over 30 years. After moving to Florida, he now works for long hours in construction:
I go on the job at two in the morning, and I’m making sure that the job is controlled and supervised by me. I’m in the car all day, driving, going through all the sites. Five days a week, nonstop.
Moreover, Sabàto says that there are several other stars that support Trump but never voice their opinions. This is probably because they don’t want to end up like him. He further told Variety that:
I know a lot of actors who are lying about who they’re going to vote for because they don’t want the crap. They won’t want to be talked about and fired from movie sets. This is serious.
These are some serious consequences of supporting a politician. However, Antonio Sabato isn’t the only one to publically support Trump. There are several others, like Mike Tyson, Ted Nugent, Kid Rock, Jon Voight and etc.
Hollywood does not like Trump at all
Everyone knows that there’s no love lost between Hollywood and Trump. Robert De Niro is very public in all his public speeches about his distaste for the Republican President. Moreover, even the bands aren’t comfortable with being near Trump. Like, when Queen pushed Trump to take down his campaign video featuring “We will rock you”. Moreover, Trump has often been involved with multiple Twitter feuds with Chrissy Teigen.
Antonio Sabàto’s case also tells us about the prevalent ‘Cancel Culture’ in Hollywood. Many other stars have been called out and boycotted for their problematic stances or behaviors. He joins a long list of such celebrities. However, Hollywood is probably not going to abandon their liberal views for anyone. Those liberal ideologies make Hollywood the most followed film industry in the world. It attracts dozens of amazing actors from all around the world. And it looks unlikely that Hollywood would ever want to change that.
Let’s see which celebrities will support Trump publically in the Presidential Elections of 2020, despite the risks involved!
