Studio Ghibli is coming up with two movies for the year 2020, including one by Hayao Miyazaki himself. ‘How Do You Live?’ or ‘Kimi-tachi wa Dō Ikiru Ka?’ will be Miyazaki’s first theatrical project after announcing his retirement back in 2017. This movie was set to release just before the Tokyo Olympics. However, producer Toshio Suzuki announced that the movie will come out between 2021 and 2022.
The exciting news for the anime world comes after the Japanese animation studio released their New Year’s Message. The message had plans for the year 2020 where the announcement came. The message, as NME reports, starts off with Studio Ghibli explaining the setbacks they experienced last year for their movies. The studio even pushed back the launch of Ghibli Park until 2022. In fact, they have also put a Kabuki stage production of 1984’s “Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind” on delay.
However, good news comes when they talk about Hayao Miyazaki’s return. One of the Studio Ghibli movies coming out is from the famous man himself as he is set to come back from his retirement. The 78-year-old released his last feature film The Wind Rises back in 2013. Miyazaki’s movie is from a 1937 novel by Genzaburo Yoshino with the same title as the movie. Now, “Kimi-tachi wa Do Ikiru ka?” is a project first announced back in 2017. Unfortunately, the details of the second part are unknown. In fact, even the name is not set.
