Disney is all set to release a live-action adaptation of its animated classic Aladdin and Will Smith will take the screens as the Genie.

Something very exciting is about to hit screens very soon. Disney has announced that it will release a live-action adaptation of the animated classic Aladdin. Probably there is nobody who hasn’t heard the ancient tale of the penniless market boy. Aladdin receives some help from the genie in the lamp and then marries the headstrong Princess Jasmine. But with Disney taking up the remake, it’s definitely going to be more interesting than the childhood story we all loved. Especially, now that Will Smith as the Genie, Mena Massoud as Aladdin and Naomi Scott as Princess Jasmine joining the movie.

What Do We Know About ‘Aladdin’?

The remake of Aladdin is shot in London with the location in Jordan. It seems like Will Smith himself is the biggest fan of this upcoming Disney adventure. He has expressed his excitement and enthusiasm to play the Genie in Aladdin on Instagram. And wrote that he could not wait for everybody to see him blue. From what Disney has revealed, Aladdin will include new songs as well as re-recordings of the original music. By that, they were referring to the ones written by Alan Menken and lyricists Howard Ashman and Tim Rice.

On Wednesday, Will Smith released the first poster for the live-action musical. And the resemblance to  the 1992 Robin Williams film was uncanny. It displays an ornate lamp along with blue smoke and the poster reads, ‘Choose Wisely’. Aladdin is scheduled to hit cinemas on May 2019 and the date is also mentioned on the poster.

Disney has already released the first trailer for Aladdin. From the looks of it, Aladdin will be a much better and safer production than the previous Disney fantasies. Including Solo: A Star Wars StoryAlice Through the Looking Glass and Tomorrowland. But there is a lot more that Disney needs to consider. One thing is for sure- Aladdin has a lot of competition to face. The movie will be judged in comparison to the animated classic from which this spawned. And also on how one big movie star plays a key supporting character compared to the other huge star playing a key supporting role. For those who didn’t get it, Aladdin will compare the performances of Robin Williams as the Genie in 1992 to the modern day Genie- Will Smith.

Let’s wait for Disney to send more Aladdin details our way!

Now that Dumbo Live Action Series is also coming up, let’s see which of the two would be more popular.
