Tom Hanks seems to be on a roll! Only a few months after his movie, ‘Greyhound’ was released, he is back with a trailer for his new movie, ‘News of the World.’
A minute-long clip of Tom’s next project was dropped by Universal Studios recently. Moreover, first look pictures were also provided by the magazine, Vanity Fair. The official trailer is said to be on its way and the release date for the new film is set as Christmas Day i.e. 25th December.
‘News of the World’ is directed by Paul Greengrass, a director Tom has worked with before. The pair’s movie together, ‘Captain Phillips’ was also nominated as the Best Picture at the Academy Awards in 2013.
The film’s screenplay was co-written by Paul and Luke Davies. Luke had also been nominated for a Best-adapted Screenplay Oscar in 2016 for a movie called ‘Lion.’
What is Tom’s ‘News of the World’ About?
The movie takes place in 1870 and the plot revolves around a widowed veteran turned into an oral storyteller called Captain Jefferson Kylie Kidd, played by Tom Hanks, of course.
He travels from town to town and shares news from all around the world. When he comes to Texas, he meets 10-year-old Johanna, played by Helena Zengel, who has been raised by the Kiowa tribe. She is now supposed to return to her biological aunt and uncle. So on her journey home, the Captain agrees to accompany her. And thus, the two embark on a life-changing journey together.
Other cast members, besides Tom Hanks, include Fred Hechinger, Michael Covino, Neil Sandilands, Thomas Francis Murphy, Elizabeth Marvel, Mare Winningham, and Chukwudi Iwuji. ‘News of the World’ is produced by Gary Goetzman, Gail Mutrux, Gregory Goodman, Steven Shareshian, and Tore Schmidt.
