Tom Cruise Gets Shoutout From Jerry Maguire Costar Renee Zellweger

Renee Zellweger is flying high in the sky right now. The Judy actress has come out on top after winning the “Best Performance for a Female in a Leading Role in a Motion Picture” at the 2020 Screen Actors Guild Awards. But this is not it, she also won a similar award in 2020 Golden Globes and 2020 Critics’ Choice Awards in the same month. Now, what does that mean? One big thing: She is a STRONG candidate to win the upcoming Oscars 2020. A nostalgic Zellweger also gave a shout out to her former co-star Tom Cruise, back from Jerry Maguire days.

Renee Zellweger Thanks Tom Cruise

Alongside Zellweger in the 2020 SAG Awards, there was Cynthia Erivo for Harriet, Scarlett Johansson for Marriage Story, Lupta Nyong’o for Us, and Charlize Theron for Bombshell. While accepting her awards, she not only thanked everyone involved in the movie but also Tom Cruise for working with her in Jerry Maguire. That was back in 1996 when the two starred in a rom-com film.

Renee Zellweger began her speech by thanking her colleague actors, whom she called family.

“And thank you for inviting me here alongside my extraordinary sisters whose work touches me so deeply. I celebrate y’all whenever you come out with anything with a popcorn breakfast at the theater. And it’s my great honor to be here tonight alongside y’all. And I’m just so grateful, and for the privilege of reflecting on the life of one of our own and most beloved.”

“…your example of professionalism on set and striving for excellence and generosity and unconditional kindness.”

Renee Zellweger wrapped up her speech by thanking the person because of who she got the award in the first place, Judy Garland.

“50 years later, your community is thinking of you tonight. This is for you.”
