The Amazon Could Still Be Saved! Leonardo DiCaprio Proposes a Solution

The world stares. The heart of the mother nature: the Amazon forest, has been burning for a month with no hope. Classified once, as the wettest forest is swarming in ashes now. Not only is it polluting the environment but destroying millions of homes for animals and perishing an entire ecosystem. The Amazon Fire is the greatest the world has seen in decades. Leonardo DiCaprio: actor, film producer, and an environmentalist, has taken a stance to help the world revive the forest.

Leonardo DiCaprio’s statement

To make the people aware of the issue, he posted a photo of the burning forest on Instagram. He wrote,

“The lungs of the Earth are in flames. The Brazilian Amazon – home to 1 million Indigenous people and 3 million species – has been burning for more than two weeks straight. There have been 74,000 fires in the Brazilian Amazon since the beginning of this year – a staggering 84% increase over the same period last year (National Institute for Space Research, Brazil).

Scientists and conservationists attribute the accelerating deforestation to President Jair Bolsonaro, who issued an open invitation to loggers and farmers to clear the land after taking office in January.⁣⁣ The largest rain forest in the world is a critical piece of the global climate solution.”

The solution

He proposed the solution to the issue of the Amazon in his post. He wanted the people to firstly take the issue seriously; realize that climate change could affect billions around the world. It can even drive humanity to starvation. He encouraged his 34.3 million followers to be a part of organizations that strive to bring about change in the climate.

Apart from this, DiCaprio also pledged to contribute 5 million dollars in funding for the aim; to aid organizations in fulfilling their purpose: save the Amazon, reduce climate change and make the people aware about the issue. The lungs of the mother nature are in dire need of help.
