Paul McCartney “loved” Peter Jackson’s Beatles documentary

Published by

Sir Paul McCartney has given a nod to Peter Jackson’s upcoming Beatles documentary ‘Get Back’! The documentary will provide an authentic portrayal of the final years of the Beatles as a band. The film from the Lord of the Rings director will focus on the band’s final album, Let It Be (1970). And it’s aim is to challenge the narrative that the fab four constantly clashed during those final years.

Sir Paul McCartney “loved” Peter Jackson’s documentary on the fab four

While talking to the BBC 6Music’s Matt Everitt, Paul McCartney had this to say about the documentary: “I love it”

I said to him [Jackson] when he was going to trawl through all the footage – like about 56 hours or something – I said, ‘Oh God, it’s going to be boring’ because my memory of the [original 1970] film was that it was a very sad time, and it was a little bit downbeat, the film.

Sir Paul McCartney also admitted that he questioned Jackson why he wanted to make a film in the first place. After all, his memory of the director Michael Lindsay-Hogg’s documentary on the album was not so great. However, when Peter Jackson saw the footage and the film, he said there were actually a lot of laughs and display of creative genius in there.

Sir Paul said:

But he got back to me he said ‘No, I’m looking at it. It’s a laugh – you guys, it’s just four guys working and you can see you making up songs’.

Paul McCartney continued, remembering the little bits of the footage and memories that he loved:

George (Harrison) wondering about the lyrics of ‘Something In The Way She Moves’ or me trying to figure out ‘Get Back’ and he’s shown me little bits and pieces of it and it’s great, I love it, I must say because it’s how it was. It just reminds me of – even though we had arguments, like any family – we loved each other, you know, and it shows in the film. It’s a very warm feeling, And it’s amazing just being backstage with these people, making this music that turned out to be good.

Another album coming in December!

Even though he is 78 years old, Paul McCartney’s musical talent just isn’t running out. The former Beatle is set to release his 18th solo album in December, named ‘McCartney III’. It will complete his eponymous record trilogy, ‘McCartney’ in 70s and ‘McCartney II’ in 80s. He recorded the entire album during the Coronavirus lockdown and it follows his last album, ‘Egypt Station’ from 2018. When asked about his 50-year-long music career, he said:

Everything I do is always supposed to be my last. When I was 50 – ‘That’s his last tour.’ And it was like, ‘Oh, is it? I don’t think so.’ It’s the rumor mill, but that’s ok. When we did [Beatles album] ‘Abbey Road’ I was dead, so everything else is a bonus.

We can’t wait to see Peter Jackson’s documentary, but they’ll also be releasing a book along with the documentary! It’s the perfect time to be a Beatles fan.
