Paul McCartney And His Team Are Observing ‘Blackout Tuesday’!

Published by

Today on 2nd June 2020, social media will observe Blackout Tuesday. However, this trend started with the music industry, and Paul McCartney and his team at MPL will be observing it too. Here’s what we know!

Paul McCartney and team observe Blackout Tuesday

Yesterday, McCartney announced on Instagram that his team at MPL will be observing Blackout Tuesday. In the post, he said:

Paul and the team at MPL will observe “Blackout Tuesday” on Tuesday 2nd June. #BlackLivesMatter #TheShowMustBePaused

After that, McCartney’s official account uploaded a black tile with the following caption, where he expressed his support for George Floyd and the protestors:

We’re doing “Blackout Tuesday” in solidarity with the music business and many people all around the world. We give our wholehearted support to seek justice for George Floyd’s family and call for an end to all similar injustices for black people and other minorities globally. #BlackOutTuesday #TheShowMustBePaused

But, that raises the question that what is ‘Blackout Tuesday’ and why are Paul McCartney and other artists observing it?

What is Blackout Tuesday?

Basically, it is a simple way of expressing solidarity with Black Lives Matter. All that the users have to do is post a black picture on their feed, and post nothing else for the rest of the day. This trend is being followed on Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram, however, it didn’t start there. In fact, it started within the music industry first.

The idea was that a number of leading names in the music industry, just like Sir Paul McCartney, would dedicate the whole day for Black Lives Matter. Throughout the day, they refrain from posting new music or any other content. The only thing they’ll post will be a black tile with Blackout Tuesday in it. However, this trend caught on among ordinary users as well. Thus, it became a global movement over social media.

With big names and artists like Paul McCartney and his team supporting Black Lives Matter, it only helps the movement. Moreover, McCartney’s history with music that spreads awareness over racism is well known. As he sang once;

Blackbird singing in the dead of the night,
Take these broken wings and learn to fly.
All your life,
You were only waiting for this moment to arise.
