Money Heist's Nairobi was written for Alba Flores

Money Heist’s Nairobi was written for Alba Flores

With the huge following behind Alba Flores’s character Nairobi, we were not surprised at the viewers’ heartbroken reaction to her death. Nairobi is probably the most motivational out of the group. Since the time she took over in the second season, fans have loved her. She represents Matriarchy in the group and her work is applaudable. Alba Flores herself is a brilliant actress and we believe Money Heist would not be the same without her. Well, we do believe she is probably the only rational thinker out of the gang of Heisters.

Alba Flores says Álex Pina wrote Nairobi for her.

In an interview with Oprah Magazine a few months ago, Alba talks about how Nairobi was born. Nairobi is not Alba Flores’s first role on Netflix. She has previously started in another Spanish Netflix show called Vis a Vis (Locked Up).

Nairobi, on Money Heist, is a single mom who abandoned her child for a life of heists. She has not much to live for as she joins The Professor’s (Álvaro Morte) gang of robbers. Once she has the money, she plans to kidnap her son. However, Alba Flores’s character changes her mind during the heist after a talk with Rio (Miguel Herrán). She is a strong character and you would not realize that her role was written after the entire script was in place!

After writing the script, Álex and the creators of La Casa De Papel realized that only one of the Heisters was female. That being Úrsula Corberó’s Tokyo. So, he came called upon Alba Flores to check out the script:

So he called me and asked if I wanted to come be on his new TV show and offered to send me the script for the first two episodes. He said, ‘If you like it, I can write a role for you.’ And that’s how Nairobi was born.

And we are so glad he did that! In season 4, as Nairobi passes, we do find ourselves wondering how the upcoming seasons are going to be without our dear Nairobi. Honestly, the Heist would not be the same without her. We do hope La Casa De Papel creators are done killing off our favorites from the show.
