Taika Waititi’s new movie, Jojo Rabbit is being raved about for its riveting unique writing and storytelling. In fact, globally acclaimed critics have given the verdict on Rotten Tomatoes in its favor, saying it is “one of the best movies of 2019.” The movie is ‘Certified Fresh’ according to the review-aggregation website. And Mark Ruffalo, Hulk, has certified Taika Waititi’s movie as even better!
Writer and Director Taika Waititi has created a film that uniformly spins together humor, fantasy, drama, war-time horror, and even serious issues. Basically, the film is an anti-hate satire about the absurdity of war; making important points about the divided world we live in.
Jojo Rabbit’s subject is a sensitive or controversial one, for many. It is set in the days of World War II in Nazi Germany. The story is about a 10-year-old German boy (Roman Griffin Davis) growing up under Adolf Hitler’s rule. He soon discovers that his mother, Rosie, (Scarlett Johansson) has been hiding a Jewish teenager girl in the family attic. He forms a friendship with this girl that makes him see the entire world in a new light.
In his vivid imagination, Jojo is devoted to join and partake in the war with his fellow country-men. In a twist of events, and Jojo finds himself an imaginary friend. This ‘friend’ is a buffoonish version of Adolf Hitler, that acts very differently than the historical figure we all know of. In fact, the role of Hitler is played by Taika Waititi himself.
“Life is a gift. We must celebrate it. We must dance,” Rosie tells her son. The overall theme of the movie is kindness, love, and saying no to evil and hatred.
While the film is being appreciated meanwhile others felt it was really not up to the hype.
Some believe that Taika Waititi’s movie is just vastly misunderstood for the points it tries to put across.
However, actor and producer Mark Ruffalo famously known as ‘The Hulk’ absolutely loved it! In fact, he has given Taika Waititi a huge thumbs-up, calling his film, Jojo Rabbit a ‘masterpiece’.
Ruffalo posted a cute photo on Twitter of himself and Taika Waititi taking a selfie while expressing his appreciation out loud.
Now that ‘The Hulk (Ruffalo) has also approved, how can we not watch this movie? It’s time to grab some popcorn and watch Jojo Rabbit!
