In a recent interview, Jamie Dornan revealed an interesting thing about him and some of Hollywood’s biggest names. According to him, he, Eddie Redmayne, Andrew Garfield, and Robert Pattinson used to live together. During their early days in LA, these actors were roommates and helped each other prepare for auditions. Similarly, in a separate interview, he and Redmayne talked about their long friendship.
Before moving to Hollywood, Jamie Dornan started his career in modeling. In Hollywood, he found fame after playing Paul Specter in The Fall and Christian Grey in Fifty Shades of Grey. However, that is not why he moved to Tinsel Town. According to Jamie Dornan, his aim was to work in comedy movies. While talking about it, he said:
“For me, I don’t understand the point of doing this for a career if you don’t want to explore every facet that the job serves up, by all the different mediums of it, all the different genres, all the different challenges of it. And I love a challenge in life. Always have, always will. I love the exploration that this job allows, and I feel like I’ve spent the last eight years or so making the most of that and taking stuff on that isn’t the same as the previous (thing) and I plan to do that for as long as I’m allowed a career. When I first started acting, when I first moved to LA, I only wanted to do comedy. That’s what I thought I’d do.”
In 2021, Jamie Dornan did get a chance to fulfill his desires by working in Barb and Star Go To Vista Del Mar.
It is no secret that British actors have made it big in Hollywood for ages. Similarly, Jamie Dornan, Eddie Redmayne, Andrew Garfield, and Robert Pattinson are some British who are ruling Hollywood now. However, what’s interesting is that they all lived together when they moved to LA. In 2009, they all were close friends who helped each other trying to find work. At The Jess Cagle Show, Jamie Dornan revealed a few inside stories of that time and said:
“Garfield and Robert were always around, and Charlie Cox. I mean, there’s loads of us who actually ended up going on to do pretty well for ourselves. But at the time we, we weren’t. We were pretty, yeah, pretty, pretty messy. It’s now weird to think about it. Well, particularly for Eddie and I who lived together, and Eddie’s been one of my best mates for a long time, and now we’ve got, you know, five kids between us and we’re very much more sort of together people and stable people, probably. But we had a lot of fun then.”
While promoting their films on The Late Late Show with James Corden, Jamie Dornan and Andrew Garfield reminisced the old days of their youth. According to them, they helped each other make self-tapes for auditions and prepare by practicing lines. At the same time, Garfield and Jamie Dornan remembered the time all Brits hung out together and said:
“We were the kind of guys who would go to the Standard Hotel on Sunset Boulevard to play Ping-Pong and order one cocktail between us because we couldn’t afford any more. And we would spend six or seven hours.”
To which, Dornan added:
“But you had to order food or they would kick you out. So we’d order like, a burger and have like, a bite each.”
It’s interesting to see how self-made actors like Jamie Dornan made it big in Hollywood. Hopefully, we would hear more stories about their initial time in Hollywood.
