For Millennials. By Millennials.
Mom is an American television sitcom that first premiered in September 2013 on CBS. The creators of the series are Chuck Lorre, Eddie Gorodetsky, and Gemma Baker. The first two creators also serve as executive producers on the series along with Nick Bakay. Mom explores the life of a single mom Christy, played by Anna Faris. The series also features Allison Janney, Mimi Kennedy, Beth Hall, Jaime Pressly, and more.
However, when Mom returned for season eight on the past Thursday, it revealed how exactly Anna Faris was being written off the show. They did not kill her off or anything, thankfully. However, she has gone to college to study law at Georgetown. And Bonnie, Allison Janney’s character does not seem to handle it all that well.
Allison acknowledged that she might be going overboard in her feelings about an empty nest when she successfully drives her 42-year-old daughter to college. But realizing that she might be feeling too much did not help her feel a little less.
So in an effort to distract herself from Christy’s departure, she tried to make herself feel better. Bonnie invited all the ladies for a slumber party so they could celebrate the birthday of Bonnie’s foster sister, Tammy Diffendorf. And even though the whole thing turned out to be a mess, a call from Christy (Anna Faris) made it all better. Because like it or not, even 42-year-old college students need to call their moms sometimes.
Why Anna Faris Left “Mom”
Anna Faris’ exit from the show was announced with a statement from the actress herself back in September.
“The past seven years on Mom have been some of the most fulfilling and rewarding of my career. I’m so thankful to [Chuck Lorre], the writers, and my amazing castmates for creating a truly wonderful work experience. While my journey as Christy has come to an end, allowing me to pursue new opportunities, I’ll be watching next season and rooting for my TV family.”
From what we can tell from Anna Faris’ statement, it seems like Anna has left the show to pursue other opportunities. And if that is the case, we wish her the best of luck and hope to see her on TV again soon.
