Fox Cancels Deputy And Almost Family After Freshmen Runs

Published by

Cancellations and renewals do not stop in the face of COVID-19. April is here, and TV networks have begun flinging underperforming shows to the shambles. The first show to face the ax this year is the Freshman police-drama Deputy. Fox has decided not to order a sophomore season for the Stephen Dorff starrer. Apart from Deputy, Almost Family has also joined Fox’s list of canceled TV shows.

Freshman Shows Deputy And Almost Family Will Not Get New Seasons on Fox

As the coronavirus pandemic stagnates all shooting across all Hollywood studios, it was only logical for. TV networks wait until the last minute to make cancellation/ renewal calls. Fox is, however, clearly ahead of time. After pulling the plug on its 2019 presentation ‘Almost Family,’ Fox has decided the fate of Deputy as well.

David Ayer’s Deputy Canceled On Fox

Deputy came from the stables of Suicide Squad director David Ayer, and found its narrative in the script of writer Will Beall. In its developmental phase, the makers had roped in Stephen Dorff alongside Yara Martinez, Brian Van Holt, Siena Goines, Bex Taylor-Klaus, Shane Paul McGhie, and Mark Moses to lead the show. Later, near to its premiere, the Western procedural drama added Karrueche Tran and Jenny Gago in recurring capacities to its cast.

Deputy; however, failed to create the noise it was intended for. Critics had expected the series to be stylish and groundbreaking. Unfortunately, strict observance of genre cliches failed to generate any varied nuances.

Deputy was also the second least-watched show on the network, falling below Almost Family’s numbers. The show premiered to a decent 0.8 before falling down to 0.5 in its finale.

Fox Renewed And Canceled TV Shows

While Fox has canceled two dramas, it has also made renewal calls for a few shows. On Fox, Bless the Harts, with 9-1-1: Lobe Star, Prodigal Son, and Duncanville will all be getting new seasons.

Deputy revolves around the life of Bill Hollister (Stephen Dorff), a career lawman who is very comfortable kicking down doors. But after being utterly lost in a staff meeting, he becomes acting sheriff of Los Angeles County when the sheriff drops dead.
