Dwyane Wade’s Transgender Daughter Zaya Wade at the Truth Awards 2020

Its been a while since Dwyane Wade and ex-wife Siohvaughn Funches daughter Zaya Wade came out as Transgender and became part of the LGBTQ community. However, it’s her first public appearance since her father shared her secret on the Ellen Degeneres show. Zaya, previously known as Zion, was accompanied by parents Dwyane and wife Gabrielle Union at the Better Brothers Truth Awards 2020.

What are Truth Awards and What was Zaya Wade Doing there?

March 7th’s Truth Awards 2020 at the Taglyan Cultural Complex, Los Angeles was a star-studded event. It celebrates the achievements of the Black LGBTQ community. Dwyane Wade, daughter Zaya Wade and current wife Gabrielle Union were present at the ceremony for a friend.

The former NBA basketball player was seen sharing his thoughts about his 12-year-old transgender kid, who is now a proud member of the LGBTQ community.

When our 8-year-old daughter, Zaya Wade, came home and came out to us, we admitted that weren’t as educated about the LGBTQ+ plus community as we should have been.

Former pro-NBA basketball player then explains how he and the family took on the challenge.

We got advice from friends in the community. [They] helped us navigate the right language to use and the questions to ask. We were also reminded to make sure Zaya Wade knew her community and felt the love and support inside and outside of the home.
