For Millennials. By Millennials.
Cole Sprouse is popularly known for his role as Jughead in the teen series Riverdale now. But he and his twin brother Dylan Sprouse started acting at a very young age. In fact, Cole Sprouse starred in NBC’s Friends series as Ross Geller’s son Ben Geller. Now, after so many years of anxious waiting and hoping, the Friends fans are getting a special reunion. Apparently, the deal has been made with HBO Max.
Details on the Friends Reunion Special
There are not many details out on the Friends reunion special but we do know that the main cast will return. That means we are going to see Chandler Bing (Matthew Perry), Monica Geller (Courtney Cox), Rachel Green (Jennifer Aniston), Phoebe Buffay (Lisa Kudrow) and Joey Tribiani (Matt LeBlanc). The showrunners Marta Kaufman and David Crane will be a part of it too. We’re not sure if the supporting characters will return on the show or not. But would they really film a special reunion episode without the main characters’ kids? I want to see Ben all grown up and have fights with his sister Emma like Ross did with Monica!
Unscripted Probably Means It Won’t Star Cole Sprouse
Though, it probably won’t be since it’s an unscripted special episode. What does unscripted mean? Well, it most probably means that they won’t be returning as their characters but as their actual selves. It will just be a roundtable discussion of the characters and the cultural impact the show had.
If the unscripted episode manages to get in Cole Sprouse as well as all the other supporting characters such as Paul Rudd, it may increase viewership. Sure, the Friends’ massive fan base won’t be needing any new marketing tactics. But Cole Sprouse will bring in a new niche of fans that he garnered thanks to Riverdale and Five Feet Apart. Moreover, Marvel’s Antman (Paul Rudd) is going to make it an interesting night.
I also hope that Cole Sprouse addresses the huge crush he had on Jennifer Aniston while filming Friends.
Friends Reunion | Discussion on The Flaws of the Show?
I also want to see what the main cast thinks about how poorly some of the Friends narratives have aged. There were subtle and sometimes blatant homophobic and misogynistic storylines. At the time, everyone laughed but now with a more ‘woke’ mind, everyone has some issue or the other with each of the Friends episodes. The new generation of fans also comments on the ‘whiteness’ of the show where all the main cast members were white.
Even despite the criticism of modern viewers, the show has a cult following. Everyone loves the main cast including Jennifer Aniston, David Schwimmer, Matthew Perry, Matt LeBlanc, and Courtney Cox.
