Billy Bob Thornton was engaged to SAG Awards 2020 winner and Marriage Story’s Laura Dern at the time. But he secretly tied the knot with Tomb Raider’s Angelina Jolie and shocked Laura Dern & everyone else.

The Eternals 2020 actress met Bob on the sets of the Pushing Tin movie and the on-screen chemistry morphed into an off-screen one in no time. Angelina Jolie was fresh out of the relationship with Johnny Lee Miller around that time. Billy, however, was still Laura Dern’s fiance when he secretly got married to Mr & Mrs. Smith actress. Marriage Story’s Nora Fanshaw (Dern) described the shock in these words:

The secret marriage was not a long-lasting one though and the two called it off just 2 years later.

Billy Bob Thornton and Angelina Jolie duo didn’t last long and the marriage came to a halt in just two years. It was until 2016 when A Simple Plan actor opened up about the reasons behind their break up. Bob thinks it was the difference in their lifestyles that led to the separation.

I never felt good enough for her. She (Angelina Jolie) was always mingling with rich and important people, which made me uncomfortable. We just had different lifestyles. Hers is a global lifestyle and mine is an agoraphobic lifestyle. So that’s the only reason we’re probably not still together, maybe. There was a different path in life we wanted to take.

Angelina Jolie has never really gone public about the details but the two are still in touch with each other. Most of you might know this but Bob’s obsession with secret marriages also didn’t end with Jolie. In October 2014, he stealthily tied the know with Connie Angland and the two are still together.
