Andrew Cuomo fines Chainsmokers concert promoters for breaching COVID-19 restrictions

In his tweet, Cuomo said that they charged the promoter In the Know Experience for breaching New York’s public health laws. They’ve been fined as a result of gathering large crowds at the Chainsmokers concert stage without social distancing. Moreover, the organizers didn’t enforce wearing masks as well.

In the tweet, Cuomo also announced that the town of Southampton can no longer approve permits for any public gathering without the state’s approval. His tweet read:

The promoters did not tell the authorities about the “friends and family” section at the concert. In this section, the organizers did not impose masks and social distancing restrictions. Moreover, the promoters did not even follow the restrictions that they promised to do so, as revealed by a statement released by the office of Andrew Cuomo. Moreover, the number of attendees also exceeded the maximum allowed under the permit. So, in short, this concert was a disaster in spreading COVID-19 in the state of New York.

These findings came after Andrew Cuomo announced an investigation back in July by the Department of Health. Cuomo also said that the apparent “egregious social distancing violations” and “illegal and reckless endangerment of public health” “appalled him. New York health commissioner Howard A. Zucker had this to say about the concert back in July:

I am at a loss as to how the Town of Southampton could have issued a permit for such an event, how they believed it was legal and not an obvious public health threat.

The Chainsmokers concert was one of a series of rash parties that happened over the summers, especially in rich districts. The concert had 2,150 attendees and the ticket cost around $25,000. They eventually raised $152,000 for charity.
