Ad Astra is a space movie produced, co-written, and directed by James Gray. It is different and seriously adventurous. Moreover, It is also a father-son-relation-based drama action thriller. Ad Astra is produced by 20th Century Fox and its world premiere was at the Venice Film Festival on August 29, 2019. Following this, it was theatrically released in the United States on September 20, 2019, by Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures. The Movie received positive reviews from critics, with universal praise for Brad Pitt’s performance. As a matter of fact, it took almost 3 years for completion because Gray said he wanted to feature.
“the most realistic depiction of space travel that’s been put in a movie”.
The movie revolved around the mysterious electric pulses which start to rock the Earth. Consequently, creating chaos on Earth and at outposts on the moon and Mars when Roy (Brad Pitt) gets a call. As the plot builds up, authorities have reason to suspect that Cliff (Roy’s father; played by Tommy Lee Jones) is the reason for these pulses. Which seem to be coming from deep space. Surprisingly, Cliff never returned from a mission into deep space years earlier.
Cliff was searching for extraterrestrial intelligence, he left when Roy was 16 and then disappeared entirely from communication with Earth when Roy was 29, well over a decade ago.
Brad Pitt has delivered an outstanding performance in this space thriller where other characters are short-lived onscreen. He was challenged with the requirements of this emotional, dead serious role.
On the other hand, Tommy Lee Jones plays a small but important role to portray Roy’s lost father.
The cast of this epic space drama includes Ruth Negga, John Finn, Donald Sutherland, and Jamie Kennedy.
The Movie released on September 22, 2019, and Ad Astra has grossed $19.2 million in the United States and Canada, and $26 million in other parts of the world, a total of $45.2 million worldwide.
The film made $7.2 million on its first day, including $1.5 million from Thursday night previews. In fact, It went on to debut to $19.1 million, finishing second behind Downton Abbey.
On Rotten Tomatoes, the film holds an approval rating of 83% based on 254 reviews, with an average rating of 7.68/10. Some of the best critic reviews, in fact, are given below:
Existential but also intimate, Ad Astra is a stunning, sensitive exploration of the space left by an absent parent — and the infinite void of actual space.John Nugent

Ad Astra is a lovely, sincere and sometimes dopey confessional about fathers and sons, love and loss that takes the shape of a far out if deeply inward trip. – Manohla Dargis
“Daddy issues” in all their forms may be humanity’s greatest common experience, and so writer-director James Gray’s space drama will be relatable to most adult viewers.
