‘Thor: Love and Thunder’ Leak undoes the best moment in ‘Avengers: Endgame’

This is the longest the world has gone since Iron Man without a Marvel film. And sadly, we have to thank the Coronavirus for that. However, that has just made fans more and more hungry for the upcoming MCU films. Every single news about them is treated with a lot of sensation. Well, recently there’s been a Thor: Love and Thunder leak, and it undoes arguably the best moment from Avengers: Endgame!

Thor: Love and Thunder is already getting a lot of love from the fans. This is because this movie is taking Chris Hemsworth’s Thor close to the comics. Moreover, Natalie Portman is also making a comeback to the MCU and is following Jane’s story close to what she had in the comics The Mighty Thor. However, there’s now been a Thor 4 leak that in some ways nullifies one of the best moments from Endgame.

Skyler Shuler, who is the editor-in-chief of Disney fansite The DisInsider, revealed a Thor: Love and Thunder leak, saying that the film is being developed under a working title of “The Big Salad”. Here’s her tweet:

So, what does this leak mean? What does this leak tell us about Thor: Love and Thunder? Firstly, we have to be on the same page. No one from Marvel has yet confirmed this leak. Therefore, it’s still more of a rumor as of now. But, even if it is true, such working titles are usually an inside joke. And Marvel studios are known to pull off such jokes regularly. So, it’s not indicative of any conclusive evidence about Thor 4. But, will that stop us from writing theories on it? Absolutely not.

What is this leak significant for Thor: Love and Thunder?

Firstly, “The Big Salad” is also the name of an episode from Seinfeld. So, one can expect that if Kevin Feige came up with this title, then you can almost bet he’s a Seinfeld fan. But, it also most definitely is a hint to a cute Avengers: Endgame scene. We’re talking about that one where Thor’s mom Frigga told her son to “eat a salad”.

So, if this Thor: Love and Thunder leak is true, then it could be that Thor heeded to his mom’s advice and lost those extra pounds. However, we’re not sure about the time difference between Thor 4 and Endgame as well. Taika Waititi told Yahoo:

This is an ongoing debate that we’re still having at Marvel. Cause we’re trying to figure out how long — how many months or years — this is after Endgame, at what point does this take place?

So, you can totally expect Thor to look all buffed up again. But, this Thor: Love and Thunder leak also undermines one of Endgame’s most powerful scenes as well.

How this undermines Avengers: Endgame?

Fat Thor was a very controversial move for Endgame. What it did was that it reduced Thor to the status of the film’s comic relief. Chris Hemsworth was one of the first of the Avengers team, and many fans argued that he did not deserve to be treated like that in the grandest of films that Marvel was leading to for almost a decade. Making Thor fat was totally understandable, considering what his character went through in Infinity War. But, to then just be the butt of fat jokes is a bit disrespectful to Thor. The writers did give Thor some redemption in that iconic final fight with Thanos. Seeing him wield Mjolnir and the Battle Axe together was insane. But, he still deserved better.

If Thor: Love and Thunder just focus on an in-shape Thor and pretends like the Norse God did not go through some serious mental health issues in the 5 years between Endgame and Infinity War, then it would mean that Thor was only fat for the jokes. It pushes aside Thor’s struggle with mental health and how he gathered his strength for that iconic final battle. And that indeed is sad. We do hope Marvel deals with it in a much better way than the leaked title for Thor 4 suggests. We don’t want our favorite Norse God’s struggle with weight to just be sidelined as a joke.
